Exclamation TPMS replace with new tires?

I am going to get my tires changed at Sams Club tommorrow, but I am concerned about the TPMS. I am going to Sams Club for price and location. I have never had a car with a TPMS so I do not know what req. it has for tire replacement. I told the guy at Sams Club that it has a TPMS and he said it would be ok. I have read that when the tire is replaced parts of the TPMS have to be replaced too. I dont think they are going to replace anything on the TPMS at Sams Club. Anyone have experince with Sams Club tire center? Sould I be worried about the TPMS? Or should I go to a place that only deals with tires?

Although rebuild kits sometimes include new barrel-nuts, schrader valves and seals...it's really only the seals that need to be replaced...and that's only if they remove the sensors. If you are just having your tires replaced you've nothing to worry about. No reason to remove the sensors. Any competent tire tech should know if the vehicle has TPMS, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to remind them. The sensors can be damaged by negligence.

Had my tires replaced on my SE and the TPMS did not have to get parts replaced or anything. So you're fine.

Aren't the sensors supposed to have a battery life of 7 years?

TPMS swap from tire to tire pretty simple, make sure they don't scratch up nice wheels, I was in a rush last swap...went to different place and ended up with 2 ugly scratches on my aftermarkets

I used to work at a Walmart TLE, which is obviously similar to Sam's Club. You won't need to take the sensors off at all, there's no need. You just have to make sure you take off and put back on the tires correctly or you could damage/break the sensors.....but you have to be really incompetent to do that.

so if i want to change tpms from stock wheels to a new set of wheels/tires it would be best to buy a rebuild kit? 100% necessary?? TIA

10 year battery life on tpms, then sensors need replaced. The batteries cannot be replaced

That would be a best case scenario.

Manufacturers of the batteries give a 5 to 10 year life span expectancy. There are many variables, such as driving style, frequency of short trips, and other factors that determine battery use.

TPMS manufacturers estimate a car is driven 10% of the time, so the lithium battery should last 10 years. If the car is not moving, the sensor goes into hibernation mode. A new sensor is brought out of hibernation by pressurizing to >25 psi, sending an electronic signal or other manufacturer specific methods. Dunno about some charging batteries.

At least at Costco they cost about $10-20 each (can't remember) depending on the model. If the light is on, just bring it in. Get free lifetime rotation and balance as well. I'm sure Sam's similar. So I wouldn't worry about if it's working fine now.

Anytime the sensors are removed the seals should be replaced. You risk an air leak if not...as the seals tend to get deformed when reused.

I totally agree with you. redo seals is a must. My daughter-in-laws 07 Rav 4 had 3 leaking tpms seals on her original rims. My son and I succeeded in breaking all 3 attempting to replace the seals. Winter Road salt caused this problem IMHO. Be careful when replacing seals. The torque on the tpms nut is very low and they should remove easily

Very good point. Rebuild kits are available for all major brands. Even if you are reusing them on the OEM wheels, it's a good idea after 4 or 5 years.

Update: Got the new tires at Sams yesterday morning and everything seems fine so far. Had to take it to another place to have Nitrogen put in b/c Sams does not have it in my area. The TPMS has not come on, so I assume everything is fine. Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully this will be around to help anyone else that is wondering the same thing.
