Speeding Problem/Radar Detector Install

I love my Camry.

However I drive 100-200 miles a day and often find myself pushing 90mph!

I have a good Bel RX65 but I can't stand the thought of having the huge cable across my whole dash.

I'd like to mount my radar detector using this http://www.blendmount.com/
You all may have seen this banner on TN

Here's my questions;

1. Do any of you have this mount, what's your feedback?

2. I will only buy if if I can tap in easily to the rear view mirror hopefully. I really don't want to have to run a new wire from my fusebox through the A pillar. Has anyone tapped their rear view mirror power?

Thanks,

i dont own a radar and stuff but you can run the wire along the edge then down to a 12v source preferably one that is not constant tho.

It's a great mount, I use one for my Escort 9500ix. A little tricky to get positioned just how you want it, but once it's there I haven't touched it and hasn't moved.

I had tapped into the rear view mirror power with my older radar detector and older style blend mount... so it's definitely possible. You can also try tapping into the maplights for power as well.

First suggestion-use your cruise control!!! Even the best radar detectors can't save you 100% from the police and I'd hate to hear about you crashing.

Second suggestion-you can tap into the rearview mirror but IMO it looks cleaner running through the A pillar.

My rearview mirror doesn't have a power source so I run mine through the top headliner, down the passengers A pillar, across my glove box and into the cubby hole under my radio and connected to the cigarette adapter.

Old setup where I had coiled cable being visible

My mount is the older version. I reviewed it for BlendMount and its posted on their site somewhere.

You can tap into the rearview mirror for power. Luckily, Valentine sells super long phone cords. Running wires to rearview mirror can be clean install as well.

I don't like to hardwire stuff and mess with the wires unless I really have to.

^ i'd never go back to suction cups after using a blendmount. it's worth the extra money not having your radar detector fall off your windshield when it's cold, or suction cup marks on your windshield.

Have the suction cup mounts above the rearview mirror. Bought the non-coiled cord (escort 8500- should be the same cord as the RX65) and ran it from the detector across the headliner and down the A-pillar, through back of glove box and through small hole on the side of the center cubby.

suction caps will hold front of the radar and they more than capable of holding radar weight.
but under vibration force caps gonna get loose.
you can use stiff steel were or thin aluminum profile to make a support for the radar.
use zip tie with screw hole and small screw with nut and washer to attach top end of the support to the mirror leg.
use 3M tape to attach bottom portion of the support to the radar.
I used handle off 1 gal paint can to make support.

You can't see any cords except what comes out of the headliner into the detector (2 inches). I think the blendmount's a waste of money, mine stays positioned fine and doesn't bob up and down if you put the suctions on perfect.

Hope this helps

#1. you have to upload your pictures to a image hosting site like imageshack.us or photobucket.com. You can not link images from your computer

#2. I would never use suction cups again. After awhile, they fall off. I have a holder that holds my toll pass and it keeps falling off. I don't even have the pass in the holder. The heat itself will weaken the suction. I've even added some water to the suction to get it wet.

Same here. I'll spend a few extra rather than risk my unit from falling. Also, mounting on suction cup also makes it noticeable. I never take mine off. The only time I actually take it off is if I'm in an area I'm not too familiar with or taking it to a parking garage with valet.

With the blendmount, it makes it inconspicuous.
