hey there,

changing an oil pan gasket is a fairly easy and straightforward job, i would put extra emphasis on cleaning the engine block mounting surface with a rag and scraper tool to avoid leaking when the new gasket is installed. if you are looking to buy auto parts for your camry check out www.mtl-autoparts.com/toyota.html !

My 04 V6 has a FIP[formed in place gasket] in that location. Installed correctly, that type of a seal is almost foolproof. Are you sure you don't have a crank seal leaking? Google ToyotaPartsEast, plug in the data for your car. When I looked at the illustrations for both the V6 and I4, I didn't see a gasket for the oil pan. Toyota apparently wants FIP used in that application.I have never removed a pan using FIP but I know the shop manual for my V6 shows the FIP being cut with a special tool. Regards

Glad I saw this thread. I just ordered oil pan gasket since I see oil drips from the area. Has anyone replaced this gasket? Will it be hard to scrape off the old gasket?

On my 02, the 2.4L used "form in place gasket." I replaced it and was easy. The old gasket just peeled off the pan and engine block. The hardest part was dealing with the oil pan bolts by the crank pulley. They are hidden by the sub-frame.

Thanks for the info Yuko. I too have an 02 2.4L Camry. I bought a Victor Reinz gasket from RockAuto.com. The gasket comes with a tube of Aluminum Silicone Sealant (Bead n Seal). I'm probably not going to get to it for a couple of weeks, but I'll report in how it went.
