07 Camry changing tranny and P/S fluid.

Just got an oil change for my certified 2007 camry that i purchased last year at 32k miles. It's at 45k miles now. using full synthetic. When I went in for this (3rd oil changed) they informed me my water pump was leaking but it was covered and was replaced for free.

They recommended that I get my transmission fluid flushed as well as my power steering. I was going to get my tranny fluid changed around 60,000 miles. But if they're recommending it then i guess i fall under special road conditions in the maintenance manual and possibly have to do it early. They're charging 240 to do it though yikes. and 100 for my power steering.

Would you guys recommend I do it now as well as the P/S. I figure I can probably do the P/S myself never done it before but seeing some good information around or at least get my local mechanic to do it. Definitely don't want to pay 100 bucks for that.

But, the reason i question this is during the oil change they insisted i get the rear brakes replaced by next month. While another person who works there when my vehicle was finished said I had a good 6 months. and back in july when i got my previous oil change i was informed I had a good 6 months also. They wanted 245 to get it done I bought the brakes for 63 from them went to my local mechanic he was going to install them for 50 dollars for me. He took the rim off looked at the brake pads and said I have at least 3 months. So i returned them.

Basically I want to stay on top of the maintenance for my car but i don't want to spend money if I don't need to. I don't want to say replace my brakes at 50 % when I could've used them for 30% more or something.

Rear brakes at 45k miles, trans flush when the maintenance manual doesn't even call for a trans fluid replacement EVER, power steering flush... yeah I'd find a new dealership... I haven't personally inspected my rears but the tire place that did my tires at 40k said they should last to 100k or more based on their condition, and I can't say I've seen or owned anything that needed rears before about 80k miles. I think 'yota is getting a little over zealous with the never replace any fluids service intervals, but 45k the only one of those things I MIGHT do would be trans fluid, and I certainly wouldn't pay 240 bucks for it. Your dealership is trying to pad their profits if you ask me.

Ah thanks for the response. Yea that's what I figured. I was referring to the maintenance manual on the website for toyota owners.

But, you are right it says to inspect them but it doesn't say to change them unless I drive while towing or have manual transmission which i do not. The Toyota dealers near me (Philadelphia) yea seem to be pricey I couldn't even purchase the car here drove an hour away to get the car for at least 3k less. Guess I can see how much it would cost at my local mechanic for the tranny fluid replacement.

If you can do the work yourself it would easy to drain/refill the ATF. Just make sure it's filled to the correct level. Most people should feel the difference in shifting. The transmission does use a felt filter that IMO is better replaced. Besides OEM fluid I'd use Valvoline synthetic Maxlife ATF.

Same with siphon/refills for PS fluid:
