5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Now before you guys start itchin at me, yes I know theres ALOT of threads already discussing this topic but my problem is different and I just couldnt seem to find my answer.
My problem: So I bought my Cam around March and after like a month my rear left speaker started acting funny(rattling and vibrating noises). So I took it too the dealer and they apparently "REPLACED IT" with a new one under warranty. Before I went I had called the dealer and asked them how much time it would take and they told me about 30 mins or so. BS!! I went there and chose to stay there since I had no other ride home and knowing the fact it was only going to take 30 mins, it wasn't going to be that bad right? It took them 2 1/2 hours to do it. Ok so what, they still fixed it and I went home with a "fixed" speaker.
1 week later: Same issue and I was ticked off!! And its even worse than before...Now I'm not planning on going back to the dealer and thought if you guys could help me with what speakers I should get.
I currently have the Eonon d5106 and its putting out 4x60W, dont no if that has anything to do with speaker. Anyways, since I'm replacing rear deck speakers, I might as well replace the front doors speakers too. I dont plan on adding a sub or an amp. I'm just looking to replace the speakers and sort of upgrading them in a way.
Is your radio putting out 4x60W RMS or 4x60W peak? There is a huge difference but my guess is peak because 60W RMS is a lot for an in-dash unit. RMS is usually half of peak power which, at 30W RMS, I think is double what the OEM unit puts out. That could be part of the problem, or there could be something wrong with the amp or other circuitry in your radio.
If you've replaced the speaker once and it's doing the same thing, I'd start looking at the radio for problems also.
I will say that I'm using an aftermarket radio with stock rear speakers, but my radio outputs 4x22W RMS and I high-passed the rear speakers at 160Hz with a 6db cut off which lowers the power to the rear speakers also. I've had it set this way for at least 3 or 4 years now and no issues even at ridiculous volume levels.

Rattling? Is it the speaker itself not properly mounted? Or are you speaking of distorted sound? I assume these are the cheap non-JBL speakers.
I would troubleshoot the head unit just to be sure as touring said. Try to identify the sounds you refer to, does it happen in the door speakers? Just that ONE rear speaker?
I agree with touring, I highly doubt your head unit it putting out 60W RMS.
Most good 4 volt pre amp output head units are working with 22W RMS.
I ran my HU at 22W RMS on stock speakers for a short time a ways back. It's only going to sound ok (if even that) on stock paper cone speakers.
6x9's are possible in both doors and rear deck, but with needed adapters to make fitting possible.

I'm pretty sure its not the eonon unit since both of the times the speaker started to rattle was when I still had the stock HU.....
But anyways I just want to get rid of the factory speakers and possible get decent quality sound without getting and amp or sub...
BTW Will this void my warranty in anyway??
changing out speakers, radio, etc, will not void out any warranty...but of course you do know that it means the dealer will not warranty any radio or speakers you put in.
i have not had any radio or speakers issues myself, and my car is now nearly 2 years old.

Its the only speaker(RL) thats making that noise....and like i said before both of the times i had this issue i had thw stock HU....
I currently have the eonon unit... Im guessing if it was the unit, the problem should've gone when i replaced it....
Either way I jus want to replace/get rid of them...

Sweet, I could careless if my dealer wont cover my speakers. I dont wnt them to since last time they did a crap jobtment:
I don't know if they will fit or not because the trunk spring limits the depth. You might need a bracket or spacer so the magnet doesn't hit the spring.
I put a set of polk audio 6x9 in the rear of my 05 camry lxe with the jbl radio i also put in a 500 watt amp set up for stereo giving me 125 watts per channel I balanced the rear spearkers with the front and the sound is pretty d good.

On taco tunes they have these brackets that you could install the 6x9s with
Quick update: I changed my mind and will be adding an amp. Maybe a sub in the future also.
Question: Amazon has this deal, that includes 6.75 pioneer speakers+ 6x9+ 4 channel bridgeable amp all for 400 bux.

You guys think the 6.75s would fit in the front??
You'll need adapters up front as well.
I just put 6.5" components in the front and back of my 2007. What I did was buy adapters for the front, back, and front tweeters from this guy (http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK010), then bought a set of these adapters to convert standard 6x9 down (
I used 6x9 pioneer 4-way (40w Nom.) with adapters.
added sound deadened on the door outer and inner shell.
even at full volume (stock HU) no rattle, no vibration, no distortion.
