Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm considering doing a retrofit on our 2010 camry or just throwing in a PnP kit.
The only question I have about the retrofit is what are you guys doing to seal the back of HID projector/housing? The factory setup won't allow water into the projector because of the black rubber seal and the way the bulb seals iteself inside of the projector.
This is not the case on HID projectors, so you can't just let the bulb/ignitor/connector just sit there open to the elements. All factory HID set ups are sealed inside of the headlight.
I've played around with the oem projectors out of a set of damaged headlights and I don't feel confident in the way that the squirrel spotter folds down. Yes, folding it down will help, but it's not a pefect seal. You need to open the headlight and access the inside of the projector to do that.
I like the PnP kit idea because of the simplicity to install/remove if need be. I have a PnP H11 kit on my TSXs fog lights.

A relay harness will be used either way.
thanks for your help/input
Check out LnGasmans Camry gen6.5 retrofit. I went the retrofit route myself, much better than a pnp kit and more OEM looking.

Basically you take a pair of the STI-R lenses and swap them with the lenses currently in your gen6.5 headlights. Apparently it bolts right up and cut-off/spread is greatly improved for about 50 dollars. I emailed the retrofit source and they confirmed the STI lenses were all we need.

I saw that during my searching, but it doesn't explain about sealing the back of the housing.

I don't see how changin the lens would prevent the squirrel finder from showing up unless one were to seal that hole while replacing the lense.
but I have access to most OEM HID projectors anyway, so I just need to choose what I want and go with them.

I went down to my local Lexus dealer and bought 2 ES330 Rubber capsto seal up the back of the headlights, here is a pic. I paid about 12 bucks for the pair. The part number is 90075-65002

Why fold down the shield? You can easily take the JB Weld/Al can and plug it up just like on the Gen6. When you do that, you can put the shield back into the original position as well. It might be super flimsy but with a bit of coaxing it'll bend back straight

That's exactly what I used. But I bought them online, was like $9 each plus shipping. Josh (JSM1284) uses them on his TSX retrofts, which is who I got the idea from.

Yep, I used single Xenon E55's, not the bi-xenon version. I seriously considered going bi-xenon but ended up staying with the single xenon projectors for simplicity.
They are okay as far as brightness and great at throwing light down the road. RX330 AFS/non-AFS and Solara were much better for width of the beam and overall brightness.
Here's a comparison between the stock gen6.5 and e55 projectors.

I picked up a left side headlight off of ebay for 60 shipped and got it yesterday. I started the process today on the retrofit.
I still don't have a right side headlight or a 2nd projector, but they will come in time, I'm not in a rush.
I'm using projectors out of a 2009 m5/2008-2011 Porsche Cayenne. They are D1S/D2S bi-xenon projectors. They fit pretty well in to the hole where the OEM projector sat. I had to dremel away some material to get the projector to sit flush, but that wasn't a big deal.
I plan to use the projectors with D1S bulbs for now. I still need to find a seal for the back. I will probably pick up a PVC pipe cap from lowes/home depot and drill it to allow the wire through and seal it with some silicone.
anyway, on to the pictures.
Removed the amber reflector
new projector in place
lens on new projector
solenoid wire connector ran through bottom of headlight (still needs to be sealed)
back of housing with D1S bulb in place
back of housing showing how far D1S bulb protrudes from opening
test fit with D1S wires ran to OEM Land Rover LR2 ballast
here are a couple pictures of this style projector that I've sold before.
Excellent work thus far, while your at it you may want to go to a clear lens if those are not..can't really tell, you will get a much nice cutoff with a clear lens..just some advice..again great work !!!!
