Gen6 rear window exploded when close car door

My 2008 Toyota Camry v6 Se rear window exploded into a million pieces tonight when I closed the drivers door.

In california auto glass prices are a rip off with a big price variation... I have a $500 deductable...using there authorized vender list..have to wait for the price...at leat i am limited to the $500...hope it is less.

Toyota acting like a Chevy.

That is kind of freaky. The window didn't hold itself together even though it shattered? (Tempered safety glass has a film that should keep the pieces together)

I found this thread that may help answer some questions. Specifically read post #6.

Shattered Rear Window

All I can say is good luck and hope it doesn't cost you a lot

Good news on the car, Paramount auto glass is replacing the window as I type this morning, for $440. I was quoted up to $850 from others. My deductable is $500, so no need for insurance claim. A national chain quoted me $550 plus having to wait till Tuesday.

I had that happen to me once when it was real hot out and had my car locked up. The interior must have been 500 degrees and my driverside window exploded when I opened and shut the door, I figured it may have been the heat, but this was an old car 70's.

Only the front windshield has laminated glass to prevent shattering. All other glass is tempered glass which uses thermal and chemical treatment to increase strength and to make it crumble into small chunks rather than form jagged shards.

100bucks for glass replacement, the most. You can get these much cheaper here in Texas.
1.5hrs of labor @ 125bucks/hr

The cost should've been about 300bucks.
