2008 Camry Nav

I read thru the various pages already and I still have a few questions?
I have the JBL system
If I find a factory Nav unit is it plug and play with the antenna included??
If I go with one of the after market units such as esrisin, do I need that extra harness to make it work with the JBL??
If anyone has already installed and lived with one of the aftermarket units, can u use the bluetooth, and other buttons on the steering wheel??
I emailed esrisin already to ask about if it is plug and play and the answer that came back was not helpful, only that they have best price for me. Obviously, not an english speaking pepson who answered and it was probably a translation program that messed up the answer.
Thanks

You'll need to purchase the PAC TATO part to send the signal to the JBL amp to turn on. That goes for any aftermarket head unit, Erisin, Pioneer, etc.

The Erisin is generally plug and play, but you'll have to program your buttons. I've read that some people have to reprogram them every so often with the Erisin. I had it installed for a week or so (my Erisin is now for sale, if you're interested), but took it out and went with a much more expensive Pioneer. The issue that drove me away was the interface for mp3 (non-ipod) music, which I use extensively. The sound quality was just okay, and the functionality other than the mp3 stuff was fine, but since I used it mainly for mp3's, not everything else, it drove me crazy for the week I had it, so I uninstalled it. It looks gorgeous though. Very OEM and a huge screen.

There's a very long thread here about the aftermarket NAV systems. Generally, people like the Erisin, Eonon, etc. And for the price....

A factory Nav will not be plug and play even with a JBL system. As I recall, there are wires that will need to be spliced and swapped around. As for Erisin or any aftermarket you will need a JBL harness like mentioned above. But for aftermarket like Pioneer and etc, you can use something like Axxess Interface to be able to use it with steering wheel controls, not sure about Erisin.

I was quoted $1899 to instal either an alpine or myron & davis installed by the shop recommended by my dealer. I think thats insane. If its true that the factory unit needs to have spliced wires and adapters too, then its not worth spending $800 or so for a used OEM unit either. I can't seem to get a straight answer if it matters that mine is a Hybrid. The $1899 shop said no, the parts dept at the dealer didn't know. I don't need the extra info from the screen, just nav, iphone, bluetooth, and of course steering wheel buttons that function. No wonder theres over 50 pages on the forum.

Anyone who has had a good result on a hybrid??

I had no idea yours was a hybrid. In that fact the installer was probably right, it shouldn't matter that yours is a hybrid w/o nav. I always assumed that hybrids w/o nav had their information displayed on their odometer. Its best just to get an aftermarket one and thats my opinion. There has been a member here who had JBL and tried and ran into more problems and headaches (I think it was Musicman). there are a bunch of members who attempted their factory jbl + factory nav install but only one or two that was documented with with any results, but twice as many who have had aftermarket install and four times as many positive results documented. safer to say its better to go aftermarket (more options, more variety, often times better performance, ipod connectivity).

Sorry I'm not giving you a direct answer to your question about the results on hybrids. To be honest with you, I am going aftermarket after having had spend time contemplating the whole factory nav.
