Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello again I was the one who posted for my dads car about the strange engine noise well thats fixed now it ended up the noise was coming from the alternator and water pump so they had to replace both parts now the car at random times would idle rough but not continuously now we got our car back from after the repairs and its idling rough of course its fine when you give it gas but I noticed when I started it at the dealerhship the engine temp was all the way down on C and at any time during any given day when our engine temp is on C that car before would always start and hover around two thousand RPMS now after the parts being replaced I noticed when I started it at the dealer it started fine went up as the motor started and dropped right back down to a low idle kinda really low so low it was vibrating in the back seat
Is this normal after those parts being replaced
anyone think its possible they could of turned down the idle on it which if they did I dont know why they would of because they werent told to
Please comment and let me know when it does idle rough it dont stall it will stay running car has around 135 K Miles spark plugs were replaced around Id say 120 K - 126 K miles not sure of exact mileage at the time
But please comment and tell me what you think my mom says she is going to call the dealership in the morning and ask them about that
Assuming your not jumping the gun because the battery was disconnected (takes a day for the ecu to recalibrate) - Been trying to solve the random rough idle on an 02 4cyl for over a year. The short version of the story is the electronic throttle body is not compensating fast enough to load (fans, a/c, etc). Its normal for the car to idle up at cold startup, then slowly idle down to 750-800 rpm when its warm. Once warm, any load (fans turning on and off) drops the idle too low, the TB does not adjust and engine starts to get rough. Fans go off, Idle goes back to normal. Unlike other cars I've worked on, there are no obvious parts to clean other than the throttle body, and a mysterious hole that "looks like" an IACV. Repeated cleaning of the TB and that hole have definitely helped. Note: Assuming the 07 is similar to the 02, the TB is electronic, so there's no cable to open TB plates. Jamming a screwdriver in there to open the plates is a huge mistake, I have somebody step on the gas inside the car while I'm cleaning. Things that helped - continued TB cleaning, Tectron complete fuel system cleaner, fresh coolant, Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30 (heavy on cleaners)

maybe I am jumping the gun but it is normal for it to drop to about 750-800 RPM when warm but as soon as it was started last night with the temp gauge all the way down it dropped to about the range you were talking about maybe it is the ecu cause the car was only drove 15-20 miles from the dealer to our house that includes a couple of quick stops along the way so maybe I just havent given it enough time to recalibrate car never did stall yes once its warm the A/C which we werent using we dont have a need for it this time of year will cause some rough idle but not the kind last night I could feel it vibrating in the seats in the back pretty good maybe its just needing the ecu recalibrated my dad drives it daily 53 miles to and from work maybe that will help today it sounded okay from the outside when idling like that but it didnt sound the best most likely cause of the low idle engine sounded like it used to when doing normal driving
If it turns out to be recalibration, its telling you that the car has strayed from factory spec. I suggest you clean the TB (TB cleaner) and MAF sensor (with MAF sensor cleaner). If it does not turn out to be recalibration, and the problem continues after a dealer repair, first verify all vacuum lines were put back on. Also check the coolant levels as you had the water pump replaced. If they are ok go back to dealer, the repair is under warranty.

I believe you were originally correct about the ECU recalibration cause last night when it was started it would start and drop a little bit below one my dad just got in from work I cranked up and it didnt do that it idles fine now in drive still a bit rough in reverse but it was always kinda rough in reverse but not too bad it sounds like it used to now while idling I believe as I said above you were originally correct cause for now its idling fine a lot better than last night
