Wiper problems or normal?

Hey gang,
I have a 2006 Camry LE. I have searched and searched on here, but can't seem to find an answer to a problem I am experiencing with my wipers.

It seems as if the wipers on my Camry are not wiping as far as they should/could. Specifically, the driver's side wiper only wipes to about 4" from the edge of the driver's/left side edge of the windshield.

This wasn't so much a problem in the rain, but in heavy snow, it leaves a pretty severe blindspot in the driver's left side of the windshiled. It seems as if the wiper should wipe at least another 2-3" further to remove more rain/snow from the windshield and give the driver a better line of view.

Further, when the wipers come back down, they come to a "clunk" as if they were coming down too far.

Is there an adjustment for the wiper arms/wiper motor to allow them to wipe more of the windshield? Has anyone else experienced this?

Can anyone tell me how far their blades wipe to the driver's edge of the windhield?

You have to remove each wiper arm and reposition it at the parked position. On my 04, the driver side wiper is about one inch above the edge of the windshield at the centerline. Regards

The wiper blades of My 2003 Camry (same generation as Your 2006 Camry) work just like the ones on Your 2006. Don't seem to wipe as far as they should to the left side edge of the windshield. They also seem to make that clunking sound when they reach the down position before rising back up again. I wasn't sure if this was normal or not. I was thinking of adjusting them like Donald E. George suggested but I have to be careful doing that. On cars I have owned in the past I have actually stripped the teeth by adjusting the wiper blades "so many times" trying to get them perfectly aligned. What a PITA.

Yes,you have to be careful in repositioning the wiper arms but it can be done. The serrations on the tapered drive are very small and the metal is soft.I don't think there is any other way to adjust the wipers. Regards.

Thank you fatngs. I don't have the know how or equipment to make a presentation like you did but yours is very nice and shows exactly what the man needs to know. You open up the hinged cover over each blade drive, remove the nut and most times the assembly will come off the drive with a little effort. Judging from what the man from the Cowboy State said,I would say his wipers are off by several inches. Can't imagine how that happened but Murphy is alive and well. Found that out from many years around power generation. Regards and hoped everyone had an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving. You won't find this old fart in the crowd for Black Friday. Go for it guys and gals.

Thanks everyone!
Donald, grat instructional write up!
fatngs, outstanding presentation!

everything went smooth. Pulled the wiper arms off and adjusted them a little higher. Took a couple of times to get them just right, but now they are working as they should have been in the first place. All is well. Thanks again everyone!
