Question Interior Door Handle

I'm looking to repaint my interior door handles since the paint is beginning to flake off and to match everything else I've been painting, but..

Does anyone know how to remove the actual handle away from the entire assembly? I know how to remove the entire door panel and get the door handle assembly out of the panel, but I'm not sure how to actually get the handle out so I can paint it.

Anyone have any info on this?

Pic of what I' referring to (the chrome handle):

dont know how lol but I'll give you my regular handles cause I want chrome ones lol but we still gotta figure out how to remove them. I do have an idea though for taking it off: when the panel is off, try prying the whole area around it (lock and all) and detatch it. hope that helps

You wouldn't want my chrome handles. The paint is peeling off and the edges are razor sharp

I'm planning on peeling off what I can, sanding it down, applying a plastic adhesive primer, then a metallic/chrome coat, then the red metallic paint, then a clear coat.

Should be good fun if I can just figure out how to get just that handle out. I'm going to pull one of my doors apart later today and see if I can tinker with it. I just wish it wasn't 30 degrees out

lol It's like 65 or something here in FL. My friend lives up in Oconto and he's always like "oh I'm gonna wear shorts and a t shirt it's 25 degrees out" and I'm like . If it's below 55, I'm wearing pants and I'm born and raised here.

If you need instructions on how to take apart the doors, I have a link for a video on youtube. It's on the drivers door, but I'm sure it's the same all the way because I only got halfway on the left rear door.

Lucky, I wish it was 60 here

Thanks for the video offer, but I've taken the door panels off a few times now.

Its actually fairly tricky. I'll take some pictures when I pull the other two handles off tomorrow. If you want a general idea...

After you get the door panel off you need pull out the entire piece that contains the handle and the lock switch. After that you need to get the lock switch out. This requires some leverage on the top and bottom simultaneously. Once you get the lock out you need to take the tension off the spring and get it so that it can be pulled out. I did this by pulling the upper spring part down from where it sits, its pretty tricky, but I just used a flat head screw driver. Once you get the spring set you need to push up on just the handle and it should pop up a bit. All you need to do now is get some leverage on the handle on the bottom to get it over the piece that goes in the bottom hole. Then its just a matter of pulling the handle through and wedging the spring through. Be careful though, I had the spring launch off once I got the handle out, only happened once, but still.

You'll find that its MUCH easier to put it back together than it is to take apart. Just slide the handle back on the pivot points and push the spring in, ensure that the longest bar on the spring is on top otherwise it might slip past its resting place and won't provide tension. Then wiggle the lock switch back in and push the entire thing back into the door panel.

My apologies for this is most likely utterly useless/confusing to you, but I'm pretty tired and partially high from the fumes lol

I'll hopefully have a better detailed DIY up tomorrow along with some pics.
