5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a red 2010 Camry SE Sport and totaled it less than 24 hours later. So, I went out and got a black 2011 Camry SE Sport. My question(s)....
I haven't released the totaled '10 to the insurance company yet. Is there anything I should remove and keep? Also, the '10 had the smartkey system whereas the '11 does not. Can I take it and install it, am I better off with an aftermarket smartkey kit from China or should I just make do with a regular key? The '10 also has heated seats but the '11 doesn't. Can they be installed in the '11?
If the insurance company has totaled the car and is paying off on it you don't have the right to remove anything from it.... no matter if you have "released" the car or not.

Actually, until they pay for the car and I sign the release documents, the car is mine. They are more than welcome to re-evaluate it before paying for it. But until then, they don't own it.
Oh, and you didn't even answer any of my questions.
Why downgrade by buying a 2011 whit less options than the 2010? and no you cant install the smart key in to the 2011 non smartkey, heated seats maybe.

When my Saab was totaled in 2007, I was given the option to buy it back from the insurance company for a very low price. I wish I had done this, considering how much money I could have made parting the car out. I realize that this might be a little different in your situation because your Camry being worth a lot more than my Saab was at the time, but I just thought I'd throw that idea out there.
