5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
firstly the reason i am asking this is because I am not familiar with the GEN 6's behavior. My dad has a 2004 and whenever he needs maint. his light would stay on.
Recently, every time i turn on my car, the "Maint. Required" light blinks 5-6 times then remains off.
What might be the issue? I had my oil changed 2 months ago...and its only been 2000 miles since then.
The car performs fine. Does the maint light on the GEN 6 usually stay on like the GEN 5 or does it just blink? Thanks

the maintenance lights are annoying and you have to manually reset them. typically you have to hold a button in for a couple seconds to clear it. they are "dumb" buttons that are just on a timer, nothing more to it than that. it would be nice if there was a sensor in the oil pan that would reset it for you, but that is not the case.

The blinking means you are at 4900 miles. At 4900 miles the MAINT REQD light will blink then go out. At 5000 miles it will remain solid.
Gen 6 is slightly different than Gen 5 and some other Toyotas Like 2005-2008 Corollas and 2004 and up Siennas to clear the light.
To Clear the light:
1. Change your oil and rotate your tires (as well as whatever other maintenance it needs)
2. Turn your car to the ON position.
3. Tap the Trip/Reset button on the dash until it reads TRIP A
4. Leaving it in the Trip A position turn the key to the OFF position
5. While the key is in the OFF position press and hold the Trip/Reset button
6. While pressing and holding the Trip/Reset button simultaneously turn the key to the ON position (DO NOT START THE CAR!)
7. You should now see 5 dashes across the Trip display that will go out one by one until you see 5 zeros. When you see 5 zeros the MAINT REQD light is reset.
8. Start your car. The MAINT REQD light should come on for a second and then go out.
Hope this helps

I am having a similar problem with my 2004 Camry. I had the oil changed March 31, and when I cranked the car this afternoon, the "Maint. Required" light blinked twice then went out. I certainly have not driven the car 4900 miles since the oil was changed. Is the problem just that the light needs to be reset?

First of all I believe it's 4500 miles not 4900. Second, the procedure for resetting the light is probably the same as the generation 6, but check your owner's manual first. There should be a procedure in there. If not, try the generation 6 procedure.
I was wondering about this. MY 2010 has hit roughly 5000 miles since it's last oil change and the light hasn't come on at all. It does come on with the other lights when you first turn on the ignition during the tests. Can this feature be disabled by the dealer? I'm not the original owner so just wondering.
