Gen5 Need Help with New CV Half Axle

Hi,
I have been doing a full refresh of the front end on my automatic 02 XLE 4 cylinder Camry. Since I have 140+K miles I also decided to replace both CV shafts. Everything went fine but when I started engine up, tranny fluid came gushing out of the tranny right where the right axle goes in. I suspect the outer seal is damaged and now i plan to take axle out again and replace seal. Also, in driving car about 40 feet, it now feels like tranny is slipping. I'm hoping when I replace seal that this will solve the slipping, but I don't understand how the 2 are connected. I originally put too much ATF in tranny but enough has leaked out that the level is now at the right amount...and it still leaks.
I would appreciate any help/comments on doing the job of replacing seal. Are they hard to take out and put in? I have replaced axles on other cars, but never seals. Could it be I didn't get axle all the way seated in?
Thanks in advance,
Frank from Pittsburgh, PA
