satellite radio kit 2011 Camry

Has anyone installed the satellite radio kit on their 2011 Camry? And if so, did you need to use the magnetic antenna that comes with the kit or was the vehicles antenna sufficient?

Are you referring to a 3rd party kit? Or using the oem satellite radio?

Either. The reason I ask is because I saw a kit from an online retailer and on the picture it shows the magnetic antenna. My Camry already has the factory antenna on the top/rear roof. I was able to chat live with a sales agent from the website and he said you needed to use the magnetic antenna that comes with the kit. I'm trying to avoid that. Do you know if the OEM Toyota kit also requires the use of an additional magnetic antenna or is having the factory antenna sufficient? Thanks for your help.

The shark fin on top of your car IS the XM antenna and is utilized if you use the factory kits. There is no other antenna in the kits. I say kits because there is a fit kit and a receiver kit needed for the factory install. It's not cheap but offers superior reception and does not have that added on look. My 07 has the factory kit and the magnetic antenna sits on a plate that is added on to the rear trim shelf next to the center stop lamp. I wish I had the top mount like you.

Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted to know. So glad I won't have to utilize the extra antenna.

You're right about those kits too. They are pricey. I saw one on ebay for 'bout $270 plus cost to have someone install it. I called the dealer and they quoted me around $750 for the kit with installation. I'm sure I can get it cheaper buying it myself and having a local shop install it for me.

I bought a siriusXM radio kit from walmart for $40 and installed it in about 30 minutes. This was after I saw how much they wanted for kits for the camry. Works great and I couldn't be happier

Is that one of those kits that attaches to the factory radio via a cigarette adapter and utilizes the magnetic antenna?

Yeah there's no way to control it with the steering wheel controls, but it plugs into the lighter for power and aux for sound
