Solara 04 'cel' solution

Season's Greetings everyone!

I am seeking advice on how to proceed with the best way of resolving a PO171 & PO174 reading I got from Advance Auto Parts on my car today; i.e, simple fix I can perform myself before going to a local Toyota dealership.

DESCRIPTION:2004 SOLARA auto SE V6, 100K miles; new plugs & tim belt.
PROBLEM: Last 30 days, car displayed check engine light 3 times. Each time,
the problem goes away when I tighten the gas cap. CEL came on 3 days ago.
Replaced the fuel gas cap with brand new one yesterday. Drove the car for 30 miles today but the CEL still persists. Took it to Adv.Auto Parts today and
that's where I got the 'free' reading.

Thank you for any expertise you can extend a new member.

If you had the timing belt replaced and the codes came soon after check all vacuum hoses. Verify nothing is loose or cracked. Clean MAF sensor, change air filter. Also add a 2X bottles of Techron concentrate complete fuel system cleaner to 2X consecutive full tanks (1 per tank) to clean evap system.

Update: The CHECK Engine Light is GONE! It looks like the culprit was the dirty MAF sensor. Leakyseals' recommended steps were right on the money. I searched & googled the topic and 80% of the solutions I read pointed towards cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor. Here's what I did. I bought a can of CRC Mass airflow cleaner (solution exclusively for cleaning sensors $8.00). Had my son Steve locate and spray the critical parts of the sensor (recommend watching one from Youtube). Poured a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, drove around. Did not go away overnight. Lapse time before the CEL disappeared was approximately a full day, but I guess mileage will vary. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I am almost certain this is it.
Having had a similar CEL experience from my old Nissan Quest years ago, I learned to have the patience in methodically addressing this issue instead of running to the dealer right away. My advice to anyone with a similar situation is not to panic, but to check all the blogs on the issue, seek friendly advice, and start with simple quick fix before escalating to expensive ones. Thanks again, LS...
