Just getting used to this new to me '07 XLE, I just noticed that only 1 of the 2 rear ceiling lights come on when the door is opened. The drivers side light comes on with open/close of the door, the passenger side only comes ON if you hit the button on the ceiling, which proves that the bulb is good. Is this correct?

The rear map lights will only illuminate when their respective door is opened.
As in;
The drivers rear door and the drivers side rear map light.
The passengers rear door and the passengers side rear map light.
My 2011 XLE works this way and the interior wiring didn't change from gen6 to gen 6.5.

I have an 09 XLE bought new in June 2008. Either of the 2 rear lights on the ceiling comes on when the respective rear door is opened. No need to hit any button. I wasn't even aware that there is a button you can press on the rear ceiling.

There is, and if it is left in the on position with door closed = a drained/dead battery...
