Is your mileage on the heads up display right and does your I4 mileage suck too?
When I bought this '07 I4 a week ago, I saw that it was getting 21 MPG. Although I thought that sucked for an I4, I figured that I would run a tank full myself. It hung right around 21-22 until I took it on a 125 mile trip and it bumped up to 25.2. After returning home it gradually worked its way downward into the low 20's again. I also have a '06 Camry XLE V6 and its mileage is better than this I4.
Today I calculated the mileage, it displayed 24.2 MPG, I calculated 21.35. Has anyone else experienced that? I read on another website that someone was complaining that his was off by 10%. I haven't checked it with my GPS yet, but I'm guessing that this Camry MPH will be off by 2 MPH just like my other Camry and my Tacoma. I can however comment that when the cruise mileage remaining gets near zero, it's not kidding!
Any suggestions why my I4 gets such sucky mileage? I'm at 92K, it has a new air cleaner, I'm not a leadfoot, and I realize that winter affects it too. I have also notified my dealer that my lifters rattle for the first 3-4 miles on a cold start, maybe that is related? I understand there can be a VVT gear issue but I don't know if that can relate back to MPG.

I just went 435 miles on 15.5 gallons, mostly on the road but 5 cold mornings I let it warm up for 5 mins, and I'm not at all a pussyfoot cuz the car is so damn slow!!
That equals around 28-29ish, dealt with the normal DC beltway traffic to and from, so its not all highway. The most I've gone on a single tank was 502 before the light came on, a little over 32mpg.. The worst I think I've ever recorded was just over 25.
Hopefully your lower mpg isn't problem related. Good luck w/ it!
**btw, that mpg computer can't possibly be accurate, just measure at the pump with the odometer.
'09 Camry I4 with 99% city driving, I get an average of 19MPG (calculated by trip mileage). I know this is pretty low, but I only drive ~20mi/day on weekdays. If I do a little highway driving, it goes up into the low 20s.
Any suggestions why my I4 gets such sucky mileage?
my 07 LE was making 21.5 MPG city in TX heat. moderate traffics and AC on. up to 23 MPG without AC.
but on HWY, by my calculations (no trip comp on LE) I was above 30.
check air pressure, calipers (might be stock or just releasing rotors slowly) and clean throttle body.
does tires wearing evenly? bad alignment might eat some MPG too.

Here are my Fuelly stats. I have had a lead foot lately so the average has drifted down, I was getting 33 + every tank for a long time. It does loose a little in the winter.

Mixed driving, never hurrying in the city, always cruising on cruise control on the highway at 70mph.
I find that 10% is no big deal in accuracy. Its a Toyota. But, the accuracy gets worse with time. Resetting the MPG average doesn't help. At each fill up, I have to reset both, the average speed and average MPG, to keep the MPG accuracy in that ~9-10% optimistic range.

I just bought my 09' Camry LE 2 days ago. Is there a way to see my MPG? I'm still so new to this car. How do you check it? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

As far as I know the LE doesn't have an instant mpg readout, so you'll have to calculate it yourself (Miles traveled divided by gallons put in).
'07 SE w/ i4. K&N SRI, 37psi tires.
Recent road trip from South Elgin, IL to Baton Rouge, LA resulted in about 470 miles on 16 gallons of gas (Gas light on, a little above the E. I find I have about 2-2.5 gallons left with the line on E) which makes out to 29.375mpg when I filled in up Arkansas. Can't say what I got for the rest of the trip considering I didn't pay attention to it, had about a little over a quarter of a tank of gas though when I got back to BR. Pretty decent I guess considering it was pretty cold up in Illinois when I left.
I ran 512 miles on one tank and put in 16.02 gallons which is 32.0, mpg just last weekend (in the mountains near Staunton, Va).
My MPG readings in the XLE read out as tank average, only will give out the instant mpg just after a fill up.
My daily commute average is 29 to 30 mpg, rural back roads and some small towns.
Some tricks to get better mileage, provided the the tires and all other mechanical parts are ok;
1. Slow and easy acceleration to the cruising speed (hold to around 2,000 rpm).
2. Anticipate any speed reduction and take your foot off the gas and ease down to the new speed limit.
3. Do not use the cruise control going up moderate or steeper grades, it will over compensate to get back to the set speed.
4. Time the stoplights and arrive with some rolling motion when it turns green.
5. Keep your RPMs below 2,500.
The above tricks worked on the last fill up I did and my average MPG displayed readings showed 38.5 MPG for the first 150 miles of mixed interstate and primary state road driving. (The trip was from Richmond to Suffolk, Norfolk then through Virginia Beach.)
I found the average tank MPG readings are high by about 3 mpg when compared to the actual figures.

"Kinda Hard to ID in a Parking Lot"
I second all those tips ^ good advice. I drive 30-40k a year and have been for years. I will say that my Camry is the most sensitive car to a lead foot I have ever had. When I was really trying to squeeze it I could get 34-35 every tank and I noticed something. It seemed to me and --I keep close records-- That if I put my foot in it even once during the whole tank it would drop a mpg or two. I think the computer adjusts the shift points and also cams up the engine sooner if it thinks that is your driving style. It sounds strange I know but it has been very consistent. I get the best mpg if I drive like grandpa all the time with no exceptions. It seems to take awhile to get the mpg back up after a little romping on it. Right now I haven't been as attentive to it and it shows, my average mpg has dropped at least 1-2 mpg since I have relaxed my technique.
2008, 4 cyl auto. San Diego to almost Lake Tahoe, yesterday. Cruise set at 69 mph. Tires at 32 lbs. Two adults and luggage. 565 miles and fill-up took 15.8 gallons with CA winterized fuel, just shy of 36 mpg, but a record with this car. Normal freeway driving 33-33.5. Exclusively city driving in San Diego dropped to 24 mpg.
09 v6 33k mi.... fresh oil and filter and i get 14-19mpg all city. highway i think itll do 30mpg usually moving quickly...had i known the mileage would of been like this i wouldve gotten the g37.. i like the car for the motor although i think toyota shouldve allowed hp bumps for reasonable $$...
