5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Over the weekend i developed a P2197 code which i understand is a lean condition the Bank1 O2 sensor sets when stuck. At the exact same time my Check VSC message came up on the dash and i had no traction control. I thought it might have been a fluke so i reset the code and was fine for 2 cold starts. just as i was coming back home , just as i hit the brake to slow for my driveway, the CEL came back on (P2197) and the Check VSC System message came on.
Both times the light came on, i had just began to apply the brake to slow for eventual turns.
My question is, are these two codes linked somehow? When Toyota fixes the P2197 will the VSC come back, or is there something else wrong with the car?
To my knowledge everything will be done through warranty, but i like to know what's going on. i hate trusting someone else who has a vested interest in pandering off false or inaccurate information to pad a service bill.

Yeah they are linked, as soon as the car throws any error codes it tells you to check the VSC System. As soon as the error is fixed or cleared it will go away. I have a P0171 which is MAF, but as soon as error clears VSC error goes away. I dont know why toyota programmed their systems like this.
I'm thinking to discourage people from leaving the light on and drive in that condition for years. i couldn't clear the VSC message off my dash for more than a few seconds, so knowing your MPG or trip mileage, outside temperature, average speed, or engine run time was more difficult.
I have a scanguage II so im lucky, my MAF sensor is screwy, it comes and goes pretty much either once or twice a day. I just hate the lights on the car.

EDIT: Correction, error lights
Why don't u go get some MAF cleaner and clean it. I had that same code for a while untill I cleaned it.

Apparently the warranty on the car has been voided by the previous owner. Apparently CarFax states the vehicle was a total loss and therefore no warranty by Toyota exists, save for any safety recalls issues that may arise. Anything and everything that i may have done to my car at the dealership will be paid for out of pocket.
I. am. FURIOUS.
I bought this car on the premise that it still had a factory 3 year / 5 year warranty remaining, which would have expired in May of this year.
Needless to say, the business that i bought this car from and I are going to have a very unfriendly conversation about this development.
SO I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION RELATED TO THIS ISSUE:
What is the part number associated with that sensor? This really is something i can do by myself with very little effort. If i have to take this fu-, ahem, di... a-AHEM... business, to court, i want a working car in the mean time.
When the vehicles ECM detect a fault code, the ECM will also disengage the traction control, causing the traction control light to come on. This is normal.
OK, well Dealership #2 fixed the car in less than a day, charged me nothing, and verified that Toyota USA does still indeed honor the 3/5 year warranty, despite what Dealership #1 said in regards to the CarFax report, which was riddled with inconsistency.
