Gen5 MaddMan's Build Thread

I just purchased a 2006 Camry SE (EDIT: Turns out it's a re badged LE. Thanks, Agent556!). about a week ago and I've been lurking the forums since then reading up on basic DIY projects I can accomplish over the coming months.

By no means am I knowledgeable when it comes to doing anything with a car mechanically, (Other than switching out bulbs, oil changes and other basic car maintenance) but I'd like to start learning.

Here's a short list I hope I can get done on my own using the DIY's on this forum and without having to pay for labor.

1. Coilovers ( I want to lower it as well. About 1 - 1 1/2 inches.)

2. Switching out the majority of my lights inside and out with LED's

3. Retrofit a TSX projector with 6000k low beams and install 3000k fogs (Not sure if the SE comes with the harnesses already for the fog hook up)

4. Black out the Toyota emblems on the front and back

Everything that's on the car right now (OEM lip kit and the wheels) came with the car when I bought it and I plan on keeping them the way they are for now.

I don't see too many '06 SE's on here..Any reason why?

I'm completely open to suggestions and greatly appreciate any tips or advice!

That's odd, looks like an LE special edition to me. Reminds me of TRD VVTi's camry

gonna be nice to see how it turns out though later on

I'm going to be honest, I had a feeling it might not be an SE as well. What are the standard differences between the two?

SE Grille has a black x pattern across the whole grille instead of the horizontal chrome lines

the SE headlights are a black housing

SE Tail light is darker due to the housing being black as well

SE comes stock with a spoiler.

SE emblems are already black except for the toyota emblem

and the rear trunk garnish, is colored the same as the rest of the body (yours is chrome)

still, IIRC, the 2006 special edition camry is much harder to find than the SE, lol.

Just hope they didnt megaspike the price on you with that SE rebadging though.

I got it for $11,000 flat @ 72,000 miles from a private dealer. It has a few nicks in the paint but the interior is immaculate. If you what you say about this being a special edition is true, it makes the misleading a little less painful, lol

Congrats and welcome to the forum! A member on here by the name "LE05" has done a sweet looking retro fit on that generation Camry. I believe he used FX bi-xenon projectors. Good luck!

Thanks for the insight, I'll take a look! Hopefully I can do them on my own following the DIY thread by majorgecko1.

I just had a chance to look at TRD VVTi's ride from almost 5 years ago and it was almost identical to mine before any major mods minus paint (Even the same BBS RK's)

I also need a good site to order some of the mods (I want to go OEM as much as possible) I want to do to my ride. Any suggestions? TIA

I'm definitely interested in getting some Sea Foam to treat the motor as described in TRD VVTi's thread. Pretty sure it's never been done and seeing as I have 72k+ miles, I should get some decent results.

It's not a factory body kit. It's a body kit from SET.

That is an LE SET Special Edition car.

to the board! SE's also come with rear disc brakes.

I no longer have the BBS RK's on my car. I have chrome two piece BBS RS II's.

You got a good price on your car. Enjoy!

Thank you for the insight! I was looking for any kind of info I could being a newbie to Toyota (Family had a new 1993 Camry LE Wagon that went 200k+ miles). I see you had an extra set of the RS II's for sale with your car. Any chance of parting with them separately? They're really nice.

Thanks!

Small update; I just ordered the TRD lowering springs (Saving up for the coilovers), CAI and the TRD RSB..Should be in next Friday and installed by Monday! Also trying to borrow my friend's DSLR for some decent photos after the install.
