5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I know I've seen a lot of build threads around here so I wanted to start one of my own! I inherited an 04 Camry v6 LE with the 5 speed auto (my first car ), and although I was reluctant to have it at first (was used to driving around my mom's 08 Acura RDX), it sure as hell grew on me and I've fallen in love with the car. The build is not gonna be much for a while, I gotta make some money first (saved a wad of cash working part time, full time job coming in the summer before university so I can blow some dough on my ride) but I'm still in high school so I don't really mind But yeah, she's all stock save for a new headunit, a JVC KD-R820BT It has two usb ports, on the front and back, the back usb is currently taken up by the bluetooth dongle that comes with the unit! I'll post a video review soon but for now here's a picture of what it looks like! Its a fantastic stereo and I'd recommend it to anyone, the bluetooth is fantastic, and music sounds fantastic as well... even with my stock speakers, it brings a lot of life to em'. My car has the non-JBL setup. If anyone has done any audio upgrades on their Gen 5 and has any pointers or reccomendations for me I'd appreciate it
I'll add some pics soon of the car from the outside, although its nothing special :P
Oh and out of curiosity, I'm running the stock P205/65/R15's (alloys), and I'd like to go with a nice clean wheel setup. I'm one for sporty driving but the car rides so nicely as is that I don't want to ruin the ride too badly would I be better off with 17's or 18's?
gen 5 camrys have stock 6X9s in the front doors and rear deck..... the rear deck is easier to mount new 6X9s if u wanted but u may run into problems with the front doors.... there is not much clearance from where they mount to where the glass sits when the window is down; i ended up going with 6 1/2 in the front doors, 6X9 on the deck, new tweeters on the dash cuz the originals fell appart (literally), and a small powered sub in the trunk

yeah, my friend has an 05' and he was telling me the same thing... the one thing with the non-JBL setup in my car is that I don't even have tweeters to begin with they leave the speaker grates in the corners on the top of the dash but its just a filled hole where the tweeters should go I was also thinking of a sub but for now I already have trunk rattle so a sub would be overkill for my applications I really gotta drop a seat or open that passthrough in the morning, you dont realise how loud your music sounds on the outside of your car until you hear it for yourself thanks for the tips! cheers

TN you've made me fall in love with my camry!
Hey mate, welcome !
imo - go 18's
ive chucked a 17" on mine and i wasnt satisfied (but thats just me) the gap in the wheel arch was too big, 17"made the car look big (its already big), soo id go 18s and then lower it a bit, to your liking, :]
also - get a rear sway bar - best bang for buck mod (seeing as you said you were in high school) - you wont regret it trust me
enjoy your camry

Thanks man, I was researching that sway bar yesterday, I know it does wonders to the balance of the car! And yeah I was thinking the same thing, if I do something once, better do it right
Congrats on the car! Looks pretty familiar haha....
63,500 miles so not as much of a baby as your 31k km (converted 19k miles lol) but still low miles. first car too
Good luck bro!

Thank you. Camry is put away, so it won't see a meet until probably March or April. But we make a thread in the Canada regional section. It is the last saturday of the month at the Tim Hortons by Kennedy Commons

Ahh yeah, its off Kennedy between Elsmere and the 401...
Here's some more pictures, its snowing pretty badly, I'm glad I got these new Hankook Optimo 4S tires, they're all seasons but the one of the only snow rated passenger car all season in Canada (thanks Punks), make a hell of a difference in the powder but I can leave em on all year round (until I get rims, that is )
These are the Optimo 4S tires, I'd highly reccomend them to anyone who lives in a snowy area but dosen't want to change tires over after every winter. They have great performance in all conditions, rain or shine, snow and ice
I have Nokian all season "winter rated" tires on my Legacy, they're badass in the snow i love them with the AWD.
It's off Kennedy/Progress, just west of the Scarborough town center.
Nice man nice... and I know where that is, I'm all the way out in Vaughan, so its a drive for me, but hey once it warms up I'll be glad to show up! Meet some of the community I found the Canada forum so I'll be browsing and tossing two cents in here and there
