Replacing seals and water pump on 2005 V6 Camry

Hi,

I am bringing in my V6 2005 Camry XLE in for a pulley recall and have reached 90,000 miles. The dealer told me I should also have the timing belt, water pump and engine seals replaced since they are all under the same engine side cover. I am considering the timing belt, but do I need to replace the oil seals and water pump? What is the likelihood of their failure?

Thanks,

Michael

yes you should.

because even if they don't fail right now, there's a good chance that they will in another 20-30K, and then you would have to pay to change them all, and also pay for another timing belt since your old one will be wrecked by oil.

long story short, pay a bit more now for seals + water pump now, or pay even more later for everything again

Change the timing belt, tensioner, idler pulleywater pump and I don't know about the seal but labor to do that fix shouldn't be over an hour. Depending on your mileage, the call is yours.Regards

I suppose if your in there may as well. I've had toyotas up to 300k and never replaced water pumps thermostats or anything else but I am neurotic about changing the coolant.

300K on wate rpumps, or anything else? Really? You are one lucky person.
A correct timing belt job includes timing belt, timing belt tensioner bearings #1, and #2, cam seals, front crank seal, timing belt tensioner, water pump, and drive belt(s). If you are doing it yourself you can cheap out on any of the above mentioned parts since you will be fixing it your self when somehting fails. Most shops won't do the job with warranty unless they do everything.
