5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have about 50,000 miles on my original Bridgestone Turanza tires on my 08 SE. I have been comparing prices and have seen them anywhere from 170-200 a tire. I was looking on tire rack and saw a bunch cheaper, with much better ratings.
With that being said, if you have you replaced your tires, did you go for the originals or something different? If different, what kind and how have they worked out?
Money really isn't the issue, I just want a good mix of performance, ride, price.
The first time, yes I went with the bridgestones again. However, those didn't really last for me... I got maybe 40k out of them, and the first set too. Last time I went with continentals, and they were decent (I went to 4 different tire stores until I found one that had the right size). The last set I bought this past thanksgiving, are Yokohama AVID Trz. They're 35 bucks cheaper on discounttire.com, and though I haven't been riding them for too long, they feel just as good if not better. Still came to $620 with the mounting, balancing, and insurance. The way I drive now, these'll last me for at least two years (i hope).

Thanks, I forgot to mention I'll need all weather tires. Something comfortable since I drive about 60+ miles a day back and forth from work, mostly interstate.
That's all you need to know. Honestly, when it comes to tires, its all about experience. Someone may like the tire and when you get it, you'll hate it whether its comfort or road noise. You'll have to purchase them and figure out if its for you. Don't like them? You know not to get them next time or find out what the store policy is in regards to exchange.
There are going to be so many opinions and options to choose from that ultimately, its your decision. Theres plenty of tire threads asking which one to get. Do a search and get an idea of what people have suggested.
I got 30,000 miles on my original Bridgestone Turanza's before I needed to replace them.

never heard abut getting more than 25K out of OEM turanza's...
it got UTQG 260, right?
how did you manage to get twice more miles out of them than they were built for?
my 2007 LE came with michelin MXV4,QUTG 440, all 4 were gone by 25K.
got set of 225/55/17 Pirelli P4 four season (UTQG 760)- best tires I ever had and I had more than few sets.
I got about 35K on them by now and looks like I'll get another 25+.
if you got 50K out of turanza's P4 gonna last you forever .
P4's much better than any tires I had before (michelin MXV4, yoko avid touring, conty pro contact, kumho solus KH16 and few more).
great on dry and wet, light snow, pretty quiet (just bit noisier than michelins) and sure long lasting tires.
$140 a pc if I remember correctly.
money very well spend, no regrets!

Very few people go back with the OEM tires. There are usually much better tires to be had. OEM tires are a big compromise and many manufacturers simply buy them on a "best bid" basis. They come up with specs and manufacturers place bids to be the supplier.
I'd go to tirerack.com and spend some time reading the reviews on tires the size you need. You can really learn a lot there.
I though bridgestones el4000 really sucked specially when it came down to traction. I did my research and I ended up with pirelli pzero nero and i love them traction wise, their quite I just feel that it rides a little harder.

I take that back. 2 of the tires were replaced, very early on. Both times my wife ran over something and I had to replace them, one at about 5k and the other at about 7.5k. They were replaced with the OEM tires. So 2 of them are original and the other 2 have about 42-45k on them.
Not sure how they lasted that long, my wife drove it up until July of last year and then I inherited it. We are both pretty easy on the car.
Whatever u do don't get suckered into getting the Yokohama YK580's they are the worst tires u could buy. I had them installed at discount tire/Americas tire on Monday and today I had them swapped out for the michelins. If ur not satisfied with ur tire purchase discount tire has a policy that allows u to have them exchanged for anything else they carry free of charge. Just pay the difference if the new tires u select cost more then the original set u purchased. No questions asked. What a difference the michelins made. The yokos were so loud and the ride was unbearable. I highly recommend the Michelin primacy MXV4's. U won't regret it.

On my old galant vr-4, I had Bridgstone potenza RE960as tires, they were quit and had excellent grip wet and dry conditions. Didn't, test snowy conditions due to lack of snow in San Diego. Smooth ride too.
