I installed a Xtreme 4300k HID kit about a month ago and it's working great. I just wanna see if the 5000k bulb is compatible with my 4300k ballast? If it is then I'll go ahead and get some. I also wanna know if I'll lose any light output if I change to the 5000k bulb? Thanks in advance for your help!
The ballast is in watts, not in the light range output. You are running either a 35 or 55 watt system, which helps provide the initial surge and continued power to the bulbs. The answer is yes, you can throw in 5000K bulbs in your setup.
The output of 4300k and 5000k is not registered in our vision, so they seem very similar. 4300K is oem and the correct light output (more yellow) while the 5000K will be more or less white. Anything higher will start going blue then purple, which is a dead giveaway to cops that you are running an aftermarket setup.

I suppose you can get pulled over for glare or something if the cop is having a bad day but I don't see how it's a red flag for anything illegal lol.
care to elaborate? just curious

5000k is a bright white while 4300 is a warm white.
In my opinion, it's up to the person on what's "brighter" but ultimately its largely due to the projector and how its adjusted.
HIDs in a car that didnt come with stock HIDs, including retrofits are illegal, at least in california. So if they're blue enough and a cop really wants to pull you over, he has a reason that he can give
I have 35 watt ballasts and 5000k D2S bulbs with an MDX projector retrofit. Most cops up here, don;t even know what a retrofit is, neither do the inspection stations,
as I have never been rejected for a sticker mine is like an OEM setup at night no different from say a Lexus ES350 or something. Now if your putting anything higher in a reflector set up with a deep blue or purple hue, then its a dead giveaway to the cops.

This...it's illegal to put a HID bulb into a halogen setup.

Yup, it's illegal, but a retrofit is still better than pnp HID kits in terms of morality. A retrofit can be approved if it can pass both photometric and physical tests. Unfortunately, no one has submitted their headlights for the tests since the cost is probably too high.

Retrofit is the only way to go. On my 2008 Hybrid, I am using Bi-Xenon Morimoto projectors with clear lenses and 4300K H1 bulbs. This is the low-beam cut-off:

hi guys I have a question can I put a 55watt bulb in a 35watts ballast
Yes you can do that but:
1) Your beam pattern will have uneven "light spots".
2) The bulb will burn out much faster (like in a few months).
3) The color temperature won't look as advertised (e.g. 6000K will look more like an intense 5000K).
4) You will create even higher heat in your headlight housing.

He said 55W bulb with 35W ballast. What you said is true for the opposite.

Some possible outcomes depending on the bulbs and ballasts:
1) The bulb will filcker.
2) The ballast may fire on, and shut off after a while.
3) The ballast won't ignite at all.
4) Some misfire at the beginning; try to turn it on again and it works.
5) It may work normally with the brightness like a 35W bulb.
