I just heard this noise today. It is right when i start the car in the morning. it is like a rattling noise, and it gets louder whenever i accelerate. But the thing is that after the car is warmed up, the noise is gone. is that normal? i checked the engine oil and it's close to full. and i cant see anythign wrong in my engine.

By the description of your problem, I'm betting that you have a 4 cylinder. So I am told, this is normal, mine does it too. Sounds quiet at idle and like a diesel when you accelerate, After 3-4 miles, and even shorter the warmer the outside temperature is, it quiets down. I have been told that it won't do it in the summer time.

Some reports say that high mileage and infrequent oil changes make this worse. Some other reports claim that using synthetic 0W20 helps quiet it down. My car has 93K and the maintenance records prove frequent oil changes, I have only owned it for 1500 miles, but as I said, sounds like your description. When I first bought the car I complained, they told me that the alternator was bad. They replaced it and it does sound better, must have been a seperate problem.
