how many miles I could drive after the fuel light turned on

I just bought a 2009 Toyota Camry base. The manual shows the fuel gas turned on when the fuel is lower than 2.8 Gallon. However, after the light was on, I drove about 20 miles, then filled the tank, but only 14.5 Gallon was filled. I was confused, because the tank was 18.5 Gallon per manual, I was thinking about refill around 16.5 Gallon. And how many miles could i drive with the fuel light on? 60 miles?

Why would u want to wait that long man? Once u get that low the fuel pump begins to suck up all the crap at the bottom of the tank. My car takes about 15 gallons once the fuel lights on.

I have 2011 LE. When my light comes on and i fill up immediately i put about 14.2 gal into it. So i'm gonna say that it's roughly 4-4.5 gallons left in the tank. As far as how for can you go when your light comes on.... Well do the math. how many miles to the gallon are you getting. It's hard to anyone on these forums to tell you. They may be getting 33mpg because they are highway drivers and you may be getting 20 miles cuz you are all stop and go driving... You have to know your own car and know how you drive.

I have gone 100 miles on the light before, but that was highway. and i didn't want to push it too far. and that was an emergency.

But as stated by previous person.... why would you want to push it and suck up all the crap in the gas tank?

This has been discussed before everyone, please search before sttarting a new thread! On average, you have about 4 gallons of gas when your fuel light comes on. Depending on your gas mileage, you could drive 100 miles or so. But it is bad for your fuel pump.
