5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
wow that sucks, sorry to hear that happen to you. Its super said to see somebody steal roof racks and spoilers. Don't by standers say anything?
It's hard to say since people go past cars all the time and doing what not.
If someone was breaking a window sure, but if someone is taking off a rack or spoiler, it could just be the owner removing it.
The risk of bystanders themselves looking like idiots is pretty big if potentially the owner could just be "modifying" the roof rack.
but i mean the owner wouldn't necessarily break his own window right?
Regardless, it is a sad thing. and such things are hard to justify calling police/security for. Breaking a window is another thing.
I'm sorry to hear, man. I was paranoid regardless of where I live, so I bought locks for my roof-rack. Nonetheless, someone tried to steal the fairing (wind deflector) piece, but only got away with a wing-nut.

to me my camry, among other things, is an investment and I protect it no matter what. I put it in a parking lot overnight and wherever I'm going I try to find a parking lot because I try not to leave things up to chance. Especially here in NYC where you look away for one second and your entire car, not just a roof rack or head unit, will be gone.

If it is worth anything, Monterey Park hasn't changed over time. I used to work for an engineering company on Monterey Pass Road. Couldn't keep anything of value exposed or it would be stolen from under your nose. Left that job in 1975 and now they are long gone. Shame. These days I could leave a ten dollar bill on the hood of the car when I go in to work in the morning and assuming the wind didn't blow it away, it would be there in the afternoon. But bear in mind that this is now Texas, not California, and a 9 millimeter operates faster than a screwdriver. In this state, it is perfectly legal to carry, without any license, a concealed weapon in the car. Outside the car you need a license, but it is a defense to the death of the burglar that you were defending your property. The bad guys know this. Crime is pretty low.
Just one more reason not to live in California, thank you.
