i read thru and alot of ppl used 2.25 piping for their custom exhaust...is that what everyone recommends? is there a type of piping i have to ask for? what about the resonator with these mufflers? i dont want my v6 to sound really loud though

So i installed the borlas n there was not that much sound difference...i was disappointed...went to a shop n had the resonator removed...it's a little louder n deeper but still not as i thought it would sound or all the YouTube videos i saw...it sounds good cruising 2000-3000 rpm but if i rev it or really gas it on the fwy i can't hear anything...engine/intake sound way louder...u guys have any ideas on what i can do? I dont want super loud but i don't think it's good enough

The exhaust is always going to be louder when you hear it from the outside. I bet if you had someone rev the car while you stood outside it would sound like it does in the Youtube video.
That is why many car manufacturers install sound pipes from the exhaust into the cabin so that you can hear it better inside the car. The mustang is a car I know that does this.
And some manufacturers actually have a synthetic engine sound play over the speakers. The new BMW M5 does this because the new V8 doesn't sound as good as the outgoing V10 so BMW plays V10 sounds over the stereo speakers.
That sux...i really thought it would be a lil more deep n loud...i actually did stand behind n had my neighbor rev it n nothing..wut bout wider pipe or custom y pipe?

Lol @ the speakers playing exhaust sounds.
But some of their exhaust are super loud. Just saw an F30 the other day at my friend's shop, JUST AT START up, i couldn't hear my friend talking 5 feet away from me lmao.
Rice? or obnoxious..

Didn't your shop already put in a custom y-pipe? thats a catback.
it goes Cat -> Pipe (where the res was) -> Y-Pipe -> mufflers.
And a catback means all the above were changed..
you can try a wider pipe but not sure if worth spending...
also not sure if this is relevant but at the beginning, my TRD mufflers
were really quiet but now its A LOT louder. to the point where i have
to raise my voice at it's loudest range (2k-3k).
probably because of build-up and its gets louder idk.. lol

Yea lol at exhaust noise from speakers...not rice but louder than wut i have...nah at 1st i was asking bout full cat back but dnt have it...it's just the mufflers with no resonator they juss cut it off

Yup the borla's only come with the mufflers.
If you have them delete the resonator, i suppose thats just liek what a "catback" exhaust is supposed to do lol
Actuall CKing, the Y-pipe in question is the one before the resonator, with the cat installed torwards the end of it. Speaking to a guy who has really explored all the mods for the 2GR-FE equipped camry, he told me replacing this piece would yield the most gains for power and sound outside of going full headers. The design is made to avoid placement and clearance issues and its quite restrictive.
The Nissan guys all love this mod (replacing y-pipe) with a catless redeisgned piece for more flow. From what I hear they all recommend it. I am seriously considering doing this for the Camry, and writing a full review to give everyone the real deal. Only problem is that I need to find a muffler shop in NJ that would be willing/able to provide me with quality work, that wont crack at the first scrape, and won't take forever to fabricate as this is my daily driver.
