i got the borla exhaust last friday and i just installed it.
total time? well, it took me a long time getting the hangers off the stock exhaust with a screwdriver. installing the borla one took a heck of a lot less time.
stuff you need if you buy this exhaust:
two 3/8" x 1 1/2" bolts (the stock ones are welded to the stock muffler and borla didn't include them for me.)
screwdriver (for the hangers). if you got the special tool that takes them off or you know a guy, then get that. it'll save time.
a good rachet set and some small wrenches.
stuff to get just in case (you don't want to go to the hardware store twice like me):
extra 3/8" x 1 1/2" bolts. (i stripped two when i was trying to tighten the stock nut to the bolt)
a nut (in case the stock one doesn't cooperate with you like mine did)
lock-tight(sp?)
enjoy the pictures. i put them in link form so almost everyone can enjoy.

-Sportivo Grille
-TRD Lowering Springs (sitting in my room waiting to be installed)
thanks. i'd like to, but it really isn't that loud. i'll try to if i have the time. what's the easiest way without having to make a small movie that takes up a lot of memory?
the stock one sounded like a hum really, and the borla is more like the growl you hear before a medium sized dog is about to bark at you.
it's nice, though. it'll growl at you slightly even if you're barely tapping on the gas.

Think it'll fit the 4 cyl gen 5? prolly not.
it should..i have a trd exhaust (originally made by borla) on my i4 solara (again meant for v6 solara). Everything mated really well,...hence to answer your question, i'd say eveything should be the same for i4 and v6. (ie, if your only replacing the exhaust).
Originally posted by Mosquito that looks great, do you still have the low hanging exhaust pipe? or is it gone with the new catback you installed?
i'm keeping the old muffler just in case i need it for smog check purposes. i think it was "low hanging" because the old muffler was so heavy compared to the borla.
do i feel a difference? i don't know whether it's all in my mind because i want it to perform better because i paid good money for it, but it feels more responsive. the stock muffler was so restrictive. 1) the inlet pipe tapered a little before entering the muffler. 2) it looks like a dual pass system. you can see a pipe re-enter itself through the muffler in the pics.

i thought about getting a high-flow cat, but when i was under the car i noticed that it wouldn't be just a bolt-on install. i'd have to take it to a muffler shop to have him weld it on. i dunno? have you done it? i'd like to if it was easier to do. off topic:: how'd you get the trd s/c to fit on a gen 3? i forgot who had the s/c fit the gen 5?

it's hard to say because it says catback, but it also is a axle back. the piping past the cat is sooo long that it technically is a catback.
