05 Camry SE Owners....

I just got my hands on a 2005 Camry SE 5speed Auto...just wondering if anyone here as a 05 Camry or Camry SE also, I have noticed that when I have the heat on the air compressor comes on as if I had the AC on...Is that normal...someone told me that it was supposed to do that since there is a cabin filtration system...? true??

thanks, Kevin

i dont think it should unless u have the heat and u have the ac button pressed in too, but even then your not gonna get any cold air if u have the heat turned way up. if u have the green light for ac on while running the heater, turn it off and see what happens, if not then take it to the dealership cause if your compressor is running your burning up extra gas and horses and u might have something wrong with the compressor or some wireing somewhere

Cabin filtration and compressor operation are unrelated.

The compressor runs--or should run--during heating in order to de-humidify the air, for the purposes of clearing the windscreen and side windows in wet or humid times, and most importantly while the vehicle is cold right after startup -- the heater air temperature is insufficient to vaporize the surface condensation on the glass.

I don't recall if the A/C switch on our cars is overriden in these situations, but it is common on some domestics to have no dedicated A/C switch. The mode selector governs when the compressor runs -- in A/C, Max A/C, or 'Defrost' modes, for example.

Perhaps you could clarify for us if the compressor runs when you have the A/C switch off? If it doesn't, then you have control over it, and can deactivate it on dry days once you've defrosted.

all this considering your not talking about when its set to defog the front windows, then its supposed to turn on as you mentioned. If its set just to dash vents and this prob persists, then you've got a problem.
