Question '05 Camry Throttle Q

I was just talking to the guy today that I bought my '96 Camry XLE 1MZ-FE from. He just got a 2005 XLE V6. He says that when he hits 35 or so, it seem like the car drives itself, as if the cruise control kicks in a little. He has brought it in 3 times to Toyota and they said it is related to the car saving fuel. He talked to another '05 Camry XLE V6 owner and they said the same thing, but my mom has an '05 LE I4 and it doesn't happen.

I am thinking the throttle acting like that has something to do with the Throttle-By-Wire, and that it only happens on either the V6's, or the XLE's, or a combination of both.

Can anyone shed some light on this and why it does it?

Thanks,
Adam

ASG, all toyota's have drive-by-wire throttle. I'm experiencing the same thing, but I already knew it was the car's computer doing it and not me. It even changes into low gears on a steep hill by itself, gets kinda annoying because I drive up that hill everyday. The car sometimes "jerks" when it tries to change gear in which I won't let it change into. All in all, the only complaint I have with the car is the tranmission, but everything is cake. I learned how to deal with it anyways.

I heard that there is a software upgrade by toyota for the gen5 camry for the gear shift delay as well as the throttle response. I was going to get the upgrade lastweek but toyota had some computer problems with the software upgrade system, so im still waiting.

hope this helps.

that computer upgrade your talkin about is only for the 02 V6 camrys. it should already be in the newer vehicles. i talked to one of the service people before and he said he didnt notice a difference between the old and new program when toyota changed it on the 02s

I have a 03 Gen5 Cam and the tech guy said there is a software upgrade for my car to solve the throttle lag and gear change problem. However with that said I don't really know if the upgrade will solve the problem b/c I don't have it installed yet. All I know is that there is a software upgrade for my 03.

Are you sure? My car has a throttle 'cable'...no wires around anywhere. Do you mean all 'new' Toyota's...?
