Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am thinking of installing a new head unit, such as from Alpine which can play MP3. The head unit has a wire for the dimmer function. This wire is connected to the light switch. When headlight is OFF, the display in the head unit is brighter. When headlight is ON, the display of the head unit is dimmer.
If you have the non-JBL sound system, there should be a solid green wire going into the back of the stock head unit. That's the illumination wire. There are of course, many other wires that provide illumination when the headlights are on, but I figured that one would be the easiest in this case. Let me know if you have the JBL sound system or if there's more than one solid green wire or if there isn't one at all. Hope this helps.

My stock HU is AD6806 with the JBL logo on the upper right hand corner. So, I assume that my car is equipped with JBL system.
Ok, then you'll want the green wire on the upper left of the connector (2nd one from the left), since there should be another green one on the lower right which goes to the factory amp.
I have a 2003 Camry w/ JBL sound. I need the ILL wire to tap for my AVIC-Z1 install. I tried tapping a green wire like you described except it was all the way to the top-right which didnt seem to work. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
