My 4cyl 2nd gen vs 2002 BMW 325xi(and cop!)

So we thought this would be an interesting matchup and set it up tonight.

For comparison, my car weighs like 2700 lbs(give or take) and the engine I have is rated at 140hp 138 lb ft. My car is a 5 speed and I have basic bolt ons I/H/E/P with a bad header leak(not that it would have made a real difference...).

The BMW weighs like 3400 lbs and is rated at about 185hp with a $hit load more torque than me, a better powerband, and is stock. His is an auto(awesome gearing though).

So we headed out on some imaginary rd in the imaginary city we reside in which we figured would be pretty safe bet at our imaginary time of like 1am.

We didn't want to launch cuz we didn't want to risk hurting anything on our cars so we went from about a 5-10 mph roll. We line them up and 3 honks from the BMW and we were off. The Camry absolutely destroyed the BMW in first gear, lol. Well mayeb not that bad but it definitely jumped out to a car length head start by the top of first. Shift into 2nd, bark the tires, and the BMW starts to gain. I start pulling at the top of 2nd a little but it is too late. By the top of 2nd gear, the BMW has caught me and when third gear hits, I might as well consider it game over.

We decide to run them one more time just to make sure. Something told me that another run wasn't necessary but I agreed to do it again anyway. I just mash the gas in 1st and as soon as Mark hears me, he stomps on it. I of course jump out to a car length again and try to shift quick and hold it as long as I can. Bark the tires and then start pulling in 2nd... BEEP BEEP BEEP. THE FUCKIN RADAR DETECTOR GOES OFF!

I look to the right and there is a patrol car hiding in the dark in a driveway, I lift extra quick off the gas and pray to god that he didn't pay attention to what was going on(although my car is loud as hell) especially since we had not yet broken the speed limit of 55. Mark SHOOTS past me not seeing the cop so I pick up the cell and call him immediately. He is like "oh $hit" and jumps over to the left lane as I notice the cop pull out from the driveway way back and start to come up behind us. I tell mark to keep going and I will catch up to him later. So I am cruising at like 50 and the cop comes up behind me then just passes me. I mean I wasn't freaking out or anything cuz you gotta pay to play but seeing as I have a couple unpaid tickets, I didn't really feel like going to jail tonight or getting a 600 dollar ticket with automatic 6 points or suspended liscense. He catches up to mark just as he signals for a turn around and follows him but Mark dips into the 7 Eleven like that is where he was going all along as I dip into the gas station on the opposite side of the street and luckily the cop just lets us both go. I am sure the fact we were in two pretty plain cars helped also. had mark been driving his RX-7 and me in lke a supra or something, it wouldn't have been nice I am sure.

So I wait for a bit, mark calls me and I join him at 7 11 where we then run inside when we see another cop car. But all in all we got away scott free. We did make sure and not return back to his place together though. lol

Camry-3, one for having the ability to hold off the BMW until 60 if driven well, one for saving my @ss with the Radar detector, and one for lookign so plain that the cop just passed me by.

BMW-1 for winning the race(ultimate driving machine I guess)

Cop-1 for not worrying about us and just going about more important business

Really? I tend to do better against them at higher speeds. The 3rd gen. V6's 3rd gear is pretty damn powerful.

Your weight definetly helped you on the take off. I'm not too suprised. The AWD in his car isn't any advantage when you don't launch. Just extra weight and less to the ground. Maybe a little weight reduction even and you could take him home

like crazy pull...i love to be at around 55-60mph, hammering the gas, and then i'm magically at 80 !! if possible, that's the best mph range to start and that teg. was about 1ft in front of me their gears are close! his shift light to goto 2nd went off when i was just reaching about 5000rpms! (and i was talking about keeping up thru my 1st).

I got a race story... Gen4(4 cyc) VS gen2 TL... It happened a few months ago... When i was travelling on a 70km/hr road and stopped on a traffic light... a TL stopped beside me... and we dont know each other but we looked at each other... when the traffic light turned green... we both launched it.... I knew i ganna lose, but i dont know how much it's gonna lose... so i gave it a try... at about 40km/hr+, i couldnt keep up with it.... at about 100km/hr, i was about at least 8 car length behind it... and he started to slow down... hum...."what is he doing?".... i was getting closer to him... and i looked at the rear mirror... ....omg... there was a cop car behind us (there was a car behind me and in front of that cop car; TL and me were like 400m away from it)... i was really afraid that we were gonna get pull-over.... I slowed down, without braking cuz i dont want to let the cop know that we are speeding, to about 80km/hr.... As we driving along.... the cop car did not pull us over... ... i made a left turn right after on the next intersection... we both are very lucky...
Two weeks ago, i was travelling on the same road at about 70km/hr, there was a 2.5 gen odyssey was travelling at 80km/hr or so.... i floored it and want to go pass that mini.... and i think he floored it, too.... i could not keep up with it.... i gave up at about 100km/hr... there was no cop involved in this one...
I really need some mod to make the gen4 able to keep up with other carz!!!!

I don't race my Camry (much), but I remember once I was alongside a 4-liter Jeep Cherokee- a truck that should have raped me frontways and backways- on the way to class. Well we left at the same time, but not thinking he wanted to go I shifted into Second as I normally do. Holy shit he just went up half a fender on me. Not cool. Hammer down, hit Third as hard as I could, and pulled even. At the top of Third (well its relative, didn't have that much room and my car is mad old so 5000 RPM is the top of Third. I fear for my piston rings past that) I was pulling away, then I looked him dead in the eye, waved to him, smacked Fourth, see ya later BITCH! I don't think, though, that he gave it all he had. That Jeep 4.0 is a fackin' strong, strong motor. Therefore I should have been About two months before this I went up against a Dodge Ram but with less dramatic results- still won, though. He just gave up sooner. I'll admit if he was really trying I should have been

About two months ago I was coming home with my buddy, me in the Cam and him in his '01 Taurus... but it's the Vulcan 3.0 and not the Duratec... thing is, when it comes to driving like ya mean it he's a wuss. So I was fuckin with him going light to light, spinning tires all the way through First, smacking Second, and doing it again at the next light. (This was on worn BLizzaks for those of you wanting to know). If he knew what the fuck he was doing that car would rape me... nothing like an extra .8 liters of displacement and gobs of low-end torque! God forbid it was a Duratec the ownage would be massive.

Anytime I "win" in the Camry I take it with a grain of salt, because I know if it was a real heads-up race against a driver who gave a fuck, I'd lose. Face it, with 2.2 liters moving a ton and a half you can't accomplish a lot very quickly. I'm sure there's at least two laws of physics that agree with me on that. I really envy you 1MZ guys, you got it made. I remember in the gen2 I had, I took off on this kid in a 5-speed Escort ZX2... hit Second and hammer down but man he was gone. Like I was standing still.

Just me .02 on street-racing ownage.
