5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just purchased a used 2004 model camry LE and I got it from a Toyota dealer. They said when they get the car, there is no keyless/remote come with the car. However, I do find this car is equiped with VIP system. At least, I think it has VIP system.
For example, if I lock the car and if I try to open trunk by key, the alarm will sound. I have to unlock the driver side door to turn off the alarm. Does this mean that I have VIP in ths car? If so, does this also mean I can get keyless by purchasing remote?
Hmm.. My friend's '05 Corolla does the same thing as your Camry but I don't think she has an alarm system. I think it's a standard feature on the newer Toyotas, and doesn't necessarily indicate an alarm system.
Since you can't arm the system (cuz you don't have a remote) that would have to mean it's auto-arming but that's not happening here, is it? You should just go to one of the smaller alarm shops and ask them - I don't think it'd take them too long to take a look.

Let's say if I have VIP, does that mean I can get a keyless entry by getting a remote?
And if I don't have VIP, can I get a Toyota VIP system installed with keyless feature?
Does it worth to get a Toyota alarm/keyless or just use third-party one?
I don't know about your toyota dealer, but my toyota dealer was a bitch about this shit. They want to charge me $200 for set up and $35 for each remote. You can buy the remote on ebay for around $15 shipped, and do it at home. I don't know how to do it at home, because I figured the main unit is behind the steering wheel, and I don't want to bother with it. I used those money and spent it on a $500 2 ways pagers starter/alarm.
Worth the money to me.

if you have to use the key unlock door to turn off the sound, then you probably already has the VIP RS3200+, go to ebay and buy a $10 or $20 remote, plenty of instruction on internet on how to re-program the remote, and take only about 5 or 10 minutes of slamming door driver side front door, turning ignition key and pushing lock/unlock button

I just did one interesting test. I follow the instruction on how to add a remote to the system except that I don't have a remote. I just wanna see if the door lock and unlock once and the tail light flash. After i finish the instruction on page 1, I did see the expected behavior. I'm going to get keyless remote and actually try it.
