Distance from wheel wall to rear struts
Hey guys, I may have some helpful information that alot of people here with tire/wheel size questions tend to ask including me.
After ordering 19X8.5, +45 wheels with 245/40-19 tires (coming tuesday!) I started getting paranoid about rubbing with the struts. Since my width would grow .6" closer to the struts and .6" closer to the fenders, I decided to take a .6" wide block to place between the tires and these areas. Everywhere seemed fine except the distance between the rear wheel wall and and rear struts. The .6" block just barely fit!
I decided to take my stock SE wheels off my car today just to measure how much room there was from the wheel mount on the car to the rear struts.
This is what I found after measuring.
(**DISCLAIMER** DON'T TAKE THESE AS FIRM NUMBERS...I ONLY HAD A RULER TO USE)
Distance from rear wheel mount to struts: 172.5mm
Therefore, with stock SE wheels/tires (17X7, +45 offset and 215/55-17) this comes to about 20mm of clearance between the wheel wall and the struts.
For a 19X8.5, 45 offset and 245/40-19 wheels, this comes out to only 5mm!
TIGHT! I think I may get either 5mm or 10mm spacers for the rears. I'm sure if my tires get low, it'll fill out that extra 5mm of clearance I have left. I should have gotten 225/40-19's. I just got too tempted for the fat tire. I guess I can verify once I get my wheels in on Tuesday.
Anyways, anybody want to confirm that what I measured seems correct?
