I'm not sure what you mean by "best" (e.g, features, screen size,...). IMO, I don't like units that don't have any buttons around. They look too plain to me.
Combination of features, price and durability. As far as I know the difference in features is not that big. GPS, Ipod, usb, sd card, wheel controls...those are the main thing.
For me standard USB connection is a plus. I dont care about DVD play back.
Durability is very important when it comes to chinese products.
Here is an opportunity for the nav people to explain to me why I would even want a built in navigation system in my car. Really. Remember, I'm an old goat. I generally know where I am going. I know most major cities in the nation well enough to drive to them, and then if the address I need is on a major thoroughfare, I won't even turn my Garmin on. But really, here's the deal. I have a pocket sized Garmin that I can update quarterly. As far as I know, the built in systems might be updated annually if that, are expensive to buy, have a moderate failure rate, etc. Why would I want to have one of these in lieu of that pocket sized Garmin? If I did outside sales in a strange neighborhood I might feel differently, but when you go to the same places, day in and day out, what's the utility of these expensive little toys, other than to impress your passengers that you have expensive little toys?? I can turn on my APRS and beacon my location to the world, so I know where I am, anyone who wants to know, knows where I am even if they are in Fiji. That's enough technology for right now. What am I missing.
its not just to have a navigation. those units also have RCA inputs so it can directly connect into an amp with no line output converter needed. also there's the bluetooth function to make calls or play you music wirelessly. i mean i got my phone to use as a GPS and it uses google maps so not a lot of updating there. i would want to get an aftermarket system, because of its other capabilities.
im no longer a fan of the rosen unit. i like the navigation, but build quality is definitely not that great, and service has been pretty bad as well. my volume button broke on mine and for the price of the service, i could get a different unit. i asked them to tell me where i could just get a new potentiometer and i would solder it in myself, and they refused. if i were to get another one it would probably be the eonon d5116, or an erisin.
