Hey guys, the fuel door on my 02 Camry LE won't close. I'm guessing that there's a bar missing from where the hole is on the right side of the fuel cap. Can someone tell me if this problem can be fixed by myself (I have some mechanical knowledge, which I reckon I won't need for this)? If so, what are the parts I need to get? Cheers!
Wow, I have an 03, and mine does not look anywhere near rusted/dirty like that. You must live in one of those snowbelt states...
That said, try to clean the Gas door areas and use some W-40 and see if that helps, if not, I'm sure replacing and fixing the gas door isn't that difficult.
There doesn't seem to be anything on the right that the hinges on the door can grab onto when the door is closed. I don't think WD40 will do anything because I can't even feel/hear anything when I try to close the door.
Hmm I imagine you could order a whole new fuel door assembly or that specific part from a dealership (or if you can get the part number don't order from there, and order it online somewhere cheap or look in a junkyard for 2002 - 2006 Camrys) This is a very common car, you are bound to find these pieces.
The stick sticking out on the right hand side is definitely the reason why your door can't close, it is what allows the door to close in the first place.
I'm looking under fuel doors, but can't find something that matches the description. I think the best thing one could describe it as is the "right door hinge" . I think what you should do is show a toyota specialist your picture and mine, and see if they have that particular "stick hinge" part. Talk to either a parts specialist online or at a dealership (but don't buy the part at the dealership even if they have it until you are certain that it is the cheapest place you can buy it). Just find out the part #, and say you will get back to them about buying it. Research it online and see if they have it. Take both your picture and my picture to them though.
EDIT: that is Body Parts/Fuel Doors on the site you linked
