The pasenger side trim piece that covers the A-pillar air bag in my 07 XLE will not stay in place. It becomes loose and you notice a gap at the top. You can smack it back in place and it appears to snap back in to where it belongs, but 15 minutes of driving and it comes loose again. I have replaced the clip (part number 90950-A8001) that holds it in, but it still just comes loose again a short time later. Has anybody else had this problem? If so, what was the solution?
Really isn't any "professional" fix for it. Just figure out a way to bulk up the tab that goes into the clip. Personally I put some gorilla tape around my tab that way I can still pull it off if I need to.
Otherwise you could always go the super glue route
I have the same issue, I've wrapped the clip on both pillars with just a little bit of scotch tape. It made it just thick enough to keep the pillars from completely releasing themselves (you can still easy pull and pop off, so I'm sure it hasn't affected the airbag deployment, incase of an accident), but the top edges of the trim still aren't as flush as I think the should be, do you think these new clips will make the trim sit all flush with the headliner like they were from mile 1?
The new clip that TOYOTSPARTSMAN referenced worked perfectly in my car. It put things back to the way they looked when new. As I remember, it was a very cheap part. Order it from TOYOTAPARTSMAN or your local dealer.
It pulls straight out. You should only have to pull it out from the top a bit to access the clip. The new clip is actually bent at a right angle while the original one was straight. My guess is that this right angle bend provides more holding power. You will get a better understanding of this when you have the new clip in hand.
