Got to looking around and due to the prices of Camry's around here I got to thinking...... If I were to do the mechanical work myself along with wiring changes and radiator and the such, What else would need to be changed in order to transplant a V6 and tranny into my '07 with the I4? Would the axles interchange? How about the AC system? And yes I know I will get alot of replies to just trade it in and get a V6 and such but hey my car is pd for and I owe nothing So I dont really want to go back in debt on another car pmt.
The weight of the engine is different, so I presume the front suspension will be replaced, and that would include springs and struts. The transmission linkage will be different, and that also included changing out the center console. The ac plumbing will be different. The speedo cluster will be different. You would need to replace the ecu, and that would need to be reprogrammed by a dealer to guarantee the immobilizer isn't an issue. The transmission has to be synched with the engine computer as well. Yes, you know the answer. If this was a year long hobby project you might consider it, but my advice is to take the money you spend for this, sell the car, add the cash and own the new to you 07 v6 outright.
Your total cost even if you did the swap yourself in parts alone would be a lot more than the difference between the trade in value on your car and the cost of a used V6.
You are talking about undertaking a massive job.
If you did consider it still. Te easiest way would be to find a V6 totaled in the rear.
Swap out the entire front subframe with everything still attached to it. Then swap the dash and entire dash to engine bay harness. Then swap the fuel pump. Swap the struts and A/C And that should be the bulk of it. The ABS, TPMS, SRS, TRAC, etc should be the same but you will have to keep in mind a Japan built Camry has a lot of different parts than a USA built Camry. This can make wiring connections a huge pain.
Tach? What is diff with the tach. And as far as just getting a 6 after selling mine.... ppl here still try to get kbb retail for the but only want to give you kbb good to fair when selling. Otherwise i can get a whole subframe all inclusive from a local jy with about same mileage for around 1500- 2000. Ecu incl along with wiring. But if the dash is still an issue then maybe a turbo would be the way to go...... who makes a turbo exhaust manifold for the I4?
If u don't want anymore car payment then I'd say just drive ur car as is, it'll better for ur wallet and the car itself.
I traded in my I4 for a V6 cause I figured it'll cost more to make the I4 a little faster than to buy a factory built faster V6. U can't beat factory engineers.
Most stuff from the Scion tC with the 2AZFE should work either directly or with minor mods. Check out the scion forums or online for that. The 2AZFE can be built to far exceed the power of the V6. It's all about your wallet.
You have to be patient when looking for car deals. And in your unique situation be willing to drive far (even a few states over). A 200 dollar trip is worth it when saving a few g's on a car. The V6 is definitely worth it as they are stupid fast for a 4 door family car. However with a V6 comes more expensive/difficult maintenance and repair work as well as generally higher prices.
If you are still serious about the swap like I said it would be best to find/buy a rear or side totaled 2007 and up. Having the whole car means you every part you need. If the dash is different you have the new one. Same goes for immobilized, wiring, keys, etc. piecing a car out is the worst possible way to do it.

Thanks guys for all the replies. Like I said previously I'm use to doing engine swaps... Delt with Mustangs for several years and also rangers doing the V8 swap but those were fairly easy compared to what yall are telling me here. Guess I'll either keep it or trade up.
You asked for our knowledge and advice. In that light, you blow us all off, so good luck with your little project. When you have it all torn out and put together, and it won't run, please save your questions for a different group that doesn't know you.
He really didn't blow anyone off. In his last post he recognized our advice on the difficulty with swap even though he is used to doing swaps. He even said he will just keep it or trade up (presumably to a V6).
Thanks hardtopte- My thoughts exactly. This car is my wifes daily driver and I was not looking for it to be that drawn out of a swap. This is more than I can handle in a three or four day week end like my other swaps have been. I cant physically afford to be out of the car for that long ( weeks from the way it sounds) so yes I will wait until either I can sel it or trade it in on a V6 model when finances afford a car pmt. This swap was looking to be done during tax time when I have the 2-3K to throw away on this project. I'm not afraid to tackle it it is just the time constraints that have stopped me from undertaking such an ordeal. I mean all of my projects revolve around a 25k a yr salary with three kids and a wife. If I had the money to get her a dif car then I would still be undertaking the swap. Great project to get teh kids in on and teach then a thing or two. So gdanaher- I'm not blowing anyone off and by far this would be no "little" project that is why I have decided to pass on the experience. And for you to say that you know me shows you know nothing about me or your repoly would not have me made.
scion tc parts are most definitely interchangable wth ours. my header is listed for the scon tc. only issue i had was connecting to the down pipe (which i was getting redoen anyway) and really any decent exhaust shop and weld something up that will work just fine. it stands to reason that the turbo manifolds will bolt on the same, from there the whole kit is probably going to be custom anyway. i know there are a couple members on here getting some decent numbers with a turbo on the 4 bangers
