Does anyone know what other cars or years have the 2.4 liter 16 valve motor that would be interchangeable with a 2002 camry? Trying to help a friend with their car but having a hard time finding 2002 parts at junk yard so I was hoping maybe there were alot of years the same or another vehicle that may be easier to find used parts. Thanks so much
tensioner pulley. There was something wrong with the one on the car and broke the bracket heaving on it. Cause it wouldn't give enough to get the belt back on.
This is caused by doing it improperly. I have seen plenty of these get broken and then a new one installed and broken again.
Be sure you have the right belt and that you put the belt on in the correct method. You want the last pulley the belt goes on to be a smooth pulley (like the water pump). Trying to install it on a grooved pulley last will result in it not sliding over, cranking the fake nut more, and a snap.
The easiest way I have found it to use a rathet with a 19mm. Crank on the nut to loosen the tension and pull the ratchet back and rest it on the dog bone engine mount. You have to properly adjust the ratchet so when it gets on the dog bone the belt is still loose but this way works as you can work the belt off and on and then simply pull back a little and release tension.
Whatever you do just make sure to install the belt completely on all ribbed pulleys first and then leave the water pump or idler smooth pulley last.
