hello guy.
tried to search TN but didn't find anything about installing camry TPMS on Lexus, so if you remember any threads about swapping Lexus/Toyota TPMS just kick me in that direction please.
ok. question.
my baby sys. got IS 250. her original TPMS are gone and TPMS light is on.
I got set of Pasific type Camry/Avalon TPMS (2 from Camry, 2 from Avalon). all got same P/N and look identical.
Toyota dealer said that Toyota Camry/Avalon sensors will work on Lexus cars, but they have no software for Lexus and cannot reprogram these sensors.
Lexus dealer said that Toyota Camry/Avalon TPMS work on different frequency and cannot be programmed to IS250 or any other Lexus.
any body using lexus sensors on toyota or vice versa?
Lexus and Toyota TPMS got different dealer part numbers (different brands-different P/N), but some web sites saying they are identical.
Lexus dealer might try to reprogram camry/avalon sensors to IS250, but will charge pretty penny even if it's not gonna work.
so, is it possible to program lexus TPMS for toyota and vice versa?
As long as the numbers of digits are the same the sensors will work. Toyota has 2 basic sensor types. Some use Steel wheel (7 digit IIRC) and alloy wheel (6 digit IIRC). Lexus and Toyota are the same. As a matter fact Honda and Toyota sensors are also interchangeable.
Also idk what dealer you are working with but a Techstream (Toyota proprietary scan tool) can an will read and write data on all Toyota, Lexus, and Scion models (if you hook up to a Pontiac Vibe it pulls up as a Toyota Matrix). Lexus can work on Toyota and vice versa. The sensor programming takes a max of 20 minutes and most of that is spent writing down the sensor codes for entry into the ECU during programming.
Take the wheels and sensors to a Lexus dealer and have them program them. Don't tell them where the sensors came from and watch the work get done without a hitch.
My guess is that they'll work. I bought some OEM Pacific brand sensors (PMV-107J) off e-bay for my Toyota and the ad listed them as "Toyota/Lexus OEM" sensors....for what it's worth.
I would skip the dealer and go to a Tire Discounters. The ones in my local area have the equipment to easily reprogram the ECU. Their tool can "sniff" the sensors after they have been installed then dump the info via the OBD II port. Takes about 5 minutes.

I didn't know that...
going to check it tonight.
what is IIRC?
is it number below S/N?
what the difference between 6 and 7 digit sensors?
are they interchangeable?
I was pretty sure they gonna work but Lexus dealer said no and i don't know any one who work at Lexus to see if it's true or not.
The two sensors are obviously different and won't interchange into the other wheel. One has a sharper angle to the bend near the stem to mount in steel wheels. Tundras and Tacomas with steel wheels mainly use them. All other sensors from alloy wheels interchange and again I have personally verified that even some Hondas use the exact same sensor. It's not a Toyota product.
I checked my sensors and all of them got 7 digit IIRC number...
I know for sure at least two of them came off Avalon, which does not comes with alloy wheels.
All Avalon with the exception of Gen 1 have alloy wheels. Even the most base model 05 has alloys. Also the Camry steel wheel sensors are the same. The other type of sensor is mainly used on trucks and I only made the example to show that the type you have work (as the others are only found on truck steel wheels).
Is there anyway to add TPMS to an 03 Camry? My brother's 08 Corolla CE and my moms 2012 Camry both have it, I'm a bit envious lol. It's no big deal though.
