I just purchased a 2009 Camry from my daughter and I'm trying to incorporate my Tom Tom 710 GPS into the small center console where it has an outlet. My problem is trying to fit it in there so it doesn't move around and is still maneuverable. The 710 has a connection mount with a suction cup but I don't want to put it in the windshield. Any ideas out there?
Being mounted that low and far from windows you will probably get lousy satellite reception any anyways. Dashboard and windshield mounting is recommended for a reason.
Take the disc that is provided (normally used to adhere to the dash) and center it (measure twice!) in the center console. Then turn the suction cup piece upside down and mount it in there.
How do you see the screen when you're driving with the GPS way down there (away from where your eyes are supposed to be looking) under the console door? There's no way I could ever get used to looking down that far away from where my eyes should be focused - which is on the road ahead...
I have a Garmin that is mounted on the windshield just to the left of the rear view mirror, which is powered off the switched 12 volts from sunroof control wiring in the roof console so no wires are visible anywhere. It makes for a very neat install and the GPS is located where it's easy to see, and in the best and safest location.
