i have a 07 camry and i want to install some HID's im not worry about retro fitting or any of that but i wonder if i can just install the kit and be done with it? or since the car has the option for the lights to come on on AUTO i would have to mess with the computer or programing for the lights to work when they need to.
also what bulb should i buy for the DTRL/high beams (im just going with regular blueish bulbs on these ones)
You don't have to mess with programming for the lights; you only need not to let your headlights be on in the short time like going through tunnels.
For high beam, go for MTEC if you want blueish bulbs.
I think what the relay harness does is that it makes sure your DRL still works and your HID is not on all the time (correct me if I'm wrong others in the thread).
I know the 07 and up have projectors stock (my dad has an 07 Camry Hybrid and my mom has a 2012 Hybrid XLE). But they are still halogen projectors nonetheless. They will be ok with an HID PnP kit, but the best thing to do is a retrofit.
IF I were you I would get FX-R 3.0 projectors (that's what I have) and Morimoto 3five ballast from theretrofitsource.com
I'm not sure if the OP wants HID for his low beam or high beam (not stated in the original post). If it's for the low beam, no need to program anything. If it's for the high beam, you may need to disable DRL. Some relay harnesses still make bulbs flicker.
alright yall thanks so much, i only want hids on the low beams and will just go with a blueish bulb for high beams. i will purchase everything today but i will also need pics or a link of another thread on how to wire this harnes and relay for the flicker. im not worry about retrofit since all i want is to see a bit better at night and make the car look good (retrofit just sounds like more work and money then im willing to let go)
My entire retrofit (including installation) costed me $480, and originally my car did not have Projectors. Now I have Bi-xenon Infiniti FX-R 3.0 projectors with Phillips 85122+ bulbs on top of a Morimoto 3five wiring harness. I love them, these HID xenons are better than OEM I have seen on the road. Where I live OEM HID is quite common too. I live in Bay Area CA and none of the German Luxury cars have nothing on my HID projectors. The Japanese Luxury cars though are a different story. The LS430 has a VERY WIDE beam as well as the Acura TL.
While the Infiniti FX-R 3.0 projectors do an outstanding job illuminating 5+ lanes on the highway, the LS430 lowbeams are unmatched for their width.
If you are doing lowbeams only, then I would definitely go with the LS430 retrofitted projectors. Here is a picture gallery of a Lexus LS430 retrofit (projectors taken from an LS430) and placed on a Toyota Highlander ) on their nightime output:
^The LS430 projectors are amazing. I don't think they'd fit on the 6th gens because of how large they are, I know they are fine on the 5th gens though.
DRLs don't really have much to do with the low beams at all as they only use the high beams. The DRL sensor is a bit sensitive though, could be constantly turning the hids on/off which could ruin them, though the dealer can easily modify the sensor's sensitivity if need be.
The relay harness is more to protect the stock wiring when the ballasts are first turned on. You don't need it as much if you are just running 35w ballasts over 55w, but I'd suggest it as its a very cheap way of protecting your stock wiring vs having to spend a lot just in case something ever happens.
I drove LS430 few times and no way that highlander retro got stock LS projectors. they modified some how.
I had retro with harness on my 2007 camry, but never kept light switch in AUTO or DRL position, always off and was turning low beams on/off manually.
later I bought modified switch without AUTO mode and was using it as before.
avoid constant on and off jumps and your HID's will be fine.
also, if you'll power your harness from "main plate" (10mm nut inside of fuse box), instead of battery, your HID's will work only when ignition is on and will not drain your battery even if you'll forget to turn them off.
Just wanting to double check myself. I may order HID from theretrofitsource and it gives me the option of choosing the heavy duty relay harness or the Stand Alone Can-Bus. Am I correct that I need to get the relay harness and not the Can-Bus?
