I wondered if someone could offer me some advice or guidance, before I start kicking my car
I have a Check Engine light, and the code is reporting that Sensor 2, Bank 2 o2 sensor is out. I went to Autozone, bought a Bosch sensor (the model number they and their computers state is appropriate) and pulled out the sensor that we thought was the right one (above the exhaust under the drivers position).
The connectors are different.
The o2 sensor that sits on the exhaust itself is the right connector, but replacing that and resetting the computer doesn't help - light comes back on again later. I'm now at the point where I need an inspection sticker, and can only imagine this will fail me - but Autozone insist I have the right part.
Attached is a quick photo of the two parts - the one on the left (as you view the pic) is the new replacement. The one on the right is the one on the plug I *think* is Bank2, Sensor2.
Oh, and the local Toyota Dealer has been spectacularly unhelpful - refusing to touch a third party O2 sensor or confirm / deny which plug needs replacing - but they did give me a $400+ quote to fix the issue ...
if you click the 'more info' next to each model, you get a picture, you might be able to determine from that.
I am not sure why 3rd party parts sometimes have the wrong listing for Camry's but it has happened to me and it makes it a serious pain in the ass to DIY
The photos aren't accurate, unfortunately. The plug I've got here looks nothing like the plug they have on their website (and none of the plugs displayed match the one we pulled!
Id say have them pull one to your local store then bring the old one to match.
Dose your vin Start with a J? if so its made in Japan. If a 1 or 4 its made in the US
It's a 4, so US built. Unfortunately, it's my primary driver, so I can't pull the sensor and take it over (and I'm not 100% confident I have the right one from the pipe either)
The BSH 15489 looks to be more expensive, but Rockauto can ge it to me for about $160
I'm fairly certain 4, and according to the layout maps I've found of my car, the one we're shooting for is almost directly under the drivers seat, tucked up above the pipe
sometimes Toyota's have trouble with Bosch sensors, you may find going with Denso in the first place a lot cheaper in the long run (time and money) Denso is the OE manufacturer of the sensors from the factory, and it seems like they are cheaper overall than the bosch sensors on RockAuto.
A check engine light showing O2 sensor does not necessarily mean the sensor is bad, but I hope it is for you since you purchased sensor already. The light means that the sensor is adjusting the oxygen or gasoline outside the prescribed limits of say 20% adjustment versus adjusting for only 5% variance. The sensor is reporting a lean or rich condition depending on the numbers. Do you have the adjustment numbers? The fix is follow the decision tree step by step to determine why the car is running lean or rich. I heard that Advance Auto has a diagnostic DTR reader to give the steps for about $100 or maybe ScanTool as well.
I know it may be late for this particular repair, but should you need OEM parts, I do sell Genuine OEM parts for 30% off MSRP and only charge actual shipping plus $2.00. I am an authorized Toyota Dealer and a Site Sponsor.
Wouldn't the bank 2, number 2 sensor be located in the exhaust pipe below the cat and before the Y? Is that the sensor you removed? From the looks of your picture,it looks like you are holding the bank 2,number one sensor[the F/A sensor] Regards
So now I'm confused Switched the sensor, reset the light - no dice.
Does anyone have a map of the sensors, listing out where they are? I'm having a more mechanically minded friend work on this, and we're either getting the wrong sensor, or it's something else entirely (perhaps the levels mentioned above).
When you get a sensor code, it means something is wrong in that circuit, it is not necessarily the sensor. So someone has to do some real troubleshooting. Not sure if a more sophisticated code reader would help.
Resurecting an old thread here - I'm still driving around with my engine light on - with a new (ish) Bosch sensor in place - and the code still reads sensor 2, bank 2 failing.
i'm going to order a replacement, non Bosch sensor. My local dealership want nearly $500 for this repair - which I simply don't have - but my sticker is coming up for expiration, so I've got to figure this out sooner than later.
What code are you showing on the reader? It should be a number maybe with P?????
The sensor maybe sensing a condition like too much hydro carbon going past the sensor so the sensor is doing its job. The dealer or tech should be saying exactly why or what is the repair like is one of three offending the gases going by the sensor too concentrated.
