Many states allow hybrids to run in the HOV lanes. If I had to commute in heavy traffic every day, I'd pick a hybrid just for that, screw the extra cost.

They also get better mileage on a regular highway because of the Atkinson engine, but not enough to justify the extra cost.

Funny thing is, for someone who drives alot of highway miles, a diesel is still the best engine you can buy for mileage and durability. When the Ultra-Low-Sulfur diesel fuel law takes effect later this year, it should open up a new market for diesel passenger vehicles.

Other technologies like diesel/electric hybrids and gas/steam hybrids might trickle out soon. Hydrogen technology is still a distant dream.

A regular gas engine is still the best value right now. Good luck deciding.

I hope you guys know, I believe the tax credit doesn't mean you get 3000 dollars for free. I believe it means 3000 is not taxed.

Are any forum members driving a hybrid Camry yet? I'd love to read some real world owner reports.
