Saw A Camry Hybrid Today

At about 2:30 this afternoon I was traveling down 295 South and approached a 2007 Camry in Blue Ribbon Metallic. I didn't think anything of it since I have started to see an abundance of the '07s in the area. However, when it put on the brakes to get off an exit, I noticed the LED tail lights. I gunned it to get up beside the car, just in time to see "Hybrid" on the side.

Somewhat worthless thread, I know, but I thought I'd share something that made me smile on an otherwise crappy day.

Our dealer has one or 2 in stock (walked past them in the lot as I went in to get touchup paint)

Not sure if its worth the extra $$ though as it cost about $27k (although it has the nav system)

I am not saying i need 300 HP in my car but I want a good amount. I wish they sold a camry version where the electric motors added more power like the accord.

Doesnt the hybrid only have 175hp or something like that?

Plus the hybrids should be the same price so when you get the refund from the Gov you get an actual price break instead of breaking even.

I know the savings in mileage count but you should get savings 2 fold.

Of course the fact that the hybrid Accord used the electric motor primarily for power and not economy has been blamed by some for its very poor sales figures. With gas prices going through the roof I think Toyota could have a winner here. I'm going to take a close look at buying one myself.

I see your point but i wish the hybrid version had at least as much power as the standard counterparts.

Well that's a good point also. :-)

I'll have to watch for some acceleration tests of the hybrid Camry.

^^ These things will do 15's in the 1/4.

CVT transmissions will do wonders in gearing.

The hybrid versions have as much horsepower as the Gen5 V6 - that's really pretty good considering you're already getting better gas mileage than an I4.

It has 197 Hp. Similar to the power of the 1MZ-FE V6.

Exactly. I was reading in last week's paper about how hybrids weren't a "permanent solution" and their sales figures weren't as hot as they appear to be, and they took the Accord hybrid as an example. I smiled to myself and thought - yeah, wait till the '07 Camry Hybrid comes out! It's a family sedan, and it's geared toward fuel economy instead of power. Toyota really has a good head on its shoulders. Some will mention Toyota's 'irresponsible' use of hybrid technology in the upcoming Lexus LS600h but hey, most people who look at a high end LS sedan want the power and luxury. People looking at Accords and Camrys are looking for practicality.

To be honest, Lexus' "H" lineup (Hybrids) are considered to be the "Performance" versions of it's lineup. Like M-Benz to AMG and BMW to "M". Of course, it can't match up to the ultra performance of the two, it's still considered to be the performance model that consumes less fuel compared to other cars with similar power.

4th Generation

While we are on the Lexus topic.........

I wish they would have shipped cars with SC or TC engines. They had a great engine in the GS300 SC300 IS300 and 1 other i think. THey did not even get 300hp of of them. THey could have put better parts in and forced induction to compete with the Ms and AMCs and prolly still had better mileage.

Now they use a 4.3 v8 rated at 400CHP. I wonder what they could get out of that from factory parts.

Why did toyota stop using one of the best engines ever built? Is the 2JZ-GE not fuel efficient?
