ugh, I am jealous of you guys. I still can't hit over 35 mpg on my camry hybrid and it's 4500~ miles in already. I drive around in Los angeles so I hit traffic on and off. Any tips on how to raise my mpg?

Lighten up on the accelerator. Lead feet are the enemy of good fuel economy. Conventional vehicle or hybrid. Some folks turn off the a/c. I leave it on in AUTO/ECO mode and get 40+ish mostly suburban driving.

also try not to break, but to coast to the stop as much as you can... this is what helps a lot actually... and use cruise control on straights, even in city...
My average is 34mpg, but I have noticed on my energy readout that my wife loves to race around in it, taking the kids to school, so it would be better.
I have a Camry hybrid with about 2600 miles. We live in a hilly area so local mileage is lower than you might expect in a flat neighborhood. Around town, we get about 35. On the last long distance trip traveling sustained highway speeds of 75, we got about 34. On commute type mileage, we live in a rural area with no stop a go driving, we are getting about 36 to 37. The best trip mileage we have so far is about 38, the sticker's advertised highway mileage is 38 and local mileage is 40. We don't get that, but fairly close. I suspect if we commuted in an urban area in stop a go traffic, we would get better overall mileage. The mileage is not terrific, but it's a mid-sized car, not a compact. I would have liked better mileage, but if that were my highest criteria, I would have bought the Prius. The batteries are not robust enough to run the car on the electric motor alone in most circumstances.
Acceleration is darn good with the 4 cyl. and 30 hp electric motor and Car and Driver magazine rated it high in that category. The continuous variable transmission works well and takes almost no time to get used to. It is a very comfortable car with an excellent list of standard features. We bought the basic model and it meets our needs very well.
Overall, we are happy with the car. It's the first car I am really proud of owning. We bought it in the Jasper Pearl color, a green color for a green car. It gets attention.
I was wondering if all you guys and gals with the TCH could give an update on their MPG? I am considering the TCH and would love to hear what everyone is getting now.
My wife and I test drove one today and I was a little disappointed with the pick up power. We live in East TN so we have a lot of hills and curvy roads and I want enough power to pick up speed to pass someone going up a steep incline. Unfortunately, we didn't get to test it to see if it can do the job. Our only real test was getting onto the freeway going up a moderate incline. We also test drove the V6 and loved that. We never test drove the 4 cylinder to really see the difference between he TCH and the 4 cylinder. I will say that the TCH is deceptively fast. I was doing 90 MPH before I knew it...
So let me know what you guys are getting for MPG now...

I have and '07 XLE-V6 and a '07 TCH. For passing going up winding roads it's a no-brainer. Go with the V6. The TCH beats a 4 cyl but it is not a V6 class machine.

Thanks schmidtj for the insight. I too figured it was a no-brainer. I wrestle with the fact how often will I need that extra power to pass other cars versus better fuel economy . Honestly the better fuel economy is edging out as we do considerable around town driving...We also do considerable long distance driving and it would be nice to achieve 35-40 MPG with that size of a car...Decisions...decisions

I'm in flatland and get 35+/- with the XLE-V6 on trips. Set the cruise to 65 mph. Remember the EPA on the V6 is 30ish and to get 35 is easy on trips. The TCH economy shines in city and stop and go traffic.
Hot weather driving: 40 mpg, cold: 37 to 38 mpg. Overall, 39 mpg, after 16,000 miles in the past 5 months, 1 hour commute each way 95% at highway speeds.
I have 1100 miles on mine. Mostly driving around town, and I get about 25 if I'm careful and don't use the heat too much. About 32 to 34 on the highway, but again, I really have to be careful. I thought something was wrong with it so I called Toyota service and they said that my MPG was about what should be expected in the winter. They said I could possibly get as high as 28 or 29 in the summer.
