Buying advice

Hi,

I would like to buy a TCH and have it delivered by Sept 30. Do you think I can walk in the dealership and buy one or should I put in an order and wait? Or should I just call around and see what the salesman say?

Thanks.

Sounds like you're trying to beat the tax credit deadline. But, you've left a lot unanswered. How do you want the car configured? Are you particular about your color? How much are you willing to pay? How far are you willing to drive to purchase the car?

Base model TCH's appear to be more available than those that are fully loaded. How badly do you want leather, navigation, sunroof, etc? Many TCH owners report that they are paying MSRP, but in some places (mostly CA it seems) dealers are trying to get $2,000 to $3,000 over MSRP. Very few sell TCHs at a discount. Are you going to want to haggle? Some owners have reportedly driven far distances to get the right car at the right price, they do these deals over the internet.

Yes, I am trying to beat the deadline. I see ads for cancelled orders and I am wondering how legit they are. So far, the guys claim MSRP and it's a split between fully loaded and base. I am looking for a fully loaded one in blue ribbon. I am in CA and a salesman in San Diego wrote he could do it. I am going to try local first before travelling. I know about wait lists because I have a MINI Cooper S that I waited a long time for but I didn't have a tax credit incentive to move the deal along faster as a do with the TCH.

I ordered mine configured the way I wanted it and it took 6 weeks total to get to me. I had to pay MSRP for it because all the dealers in the valley wouldn't budge on the price since there is a waiting list on it, but it was worth it for me because they gave me a lot more on my trade in. So it pretty much washed out for what i was trying to get the car for. It is a pleasure to drive, and the added tax credit makes it a plus.

My dealer did have 2 cancelled orders, so they are legit as far as I can tell. The only thing you need to check is make sure it has the options you want and the color is ok with you. There is nothing wrong with them, just the 2 here for example, I guess the people ordered them, but when they showed up, had already purchased a different vehicle so they just got their money back, and moved on.

My dealer also took a $500 order fee that was applied as a downpayment. goodluck on the purchase. I got mine with every option I could throw in it. Gas mileage is supurb!

Sounds great. I have a MINI Cooper S I hope to sell or trade in depending on how much they give me. I am going to call the dealers and see who can help me.

As far as the trade, how is that done if you order the car? They take it right away or you give it to them when your car comes in?

The cancelled order ads may be legit because many TCH owners left deposits (refundable) at several dealerships. I'm sure they won't want your trade until the car has come in, for a lot of reasons, but certainly because they'll feel they have more leverage on the trade value once your TCH is there and you are drooling to get in and drive it away!

Good luck to you. It sounds hopeful that you will be able to meet your deadline.

I hope I can meet the deadline. I might end up selling the cooper s before the TCH comes in because it's a hot seller too.

I guess Toyota is delivering more of these cars to California... because I ordered mine, fully loaded, back in March, and finally got it, last monday.

Barcelona red with gray interior.
Nice car... will probably be the last one that I get....

There seem to be plenty of fully loaded ones going for MSRP on craigslist...

For the trade in on mine, they gave me a trade in quote when I originally ordered the car. When it came in, they gave me another trade in quote on the car, and it was just about the same, minus 100 bucks or so for the added miles. I had the option to go ahead and give it to them when I ordered the car, but then I would have nothing to drive until the TCH arrived. So I just drove my truck around for another few weeks until my lovely TCH came in, then finalized the trade.
