Fuel Tank Size?

I'm trying to figure out what is the correct number for the fuel tank capacity. The manual isnt clear on this as it shows the 17.2 and 14.3 numbers. I'm guessing the 14.3 because it took 13.5 gals with the needle on E. But, maybe they built in a hell of a reserve to prevent folks from trying to drive on electric.

Anyone know the correct TCH fuel tank size?

The tank's capacity is 17+ gallons. They appear to have left about 3 gallons in reserve, which is why your gauge went to "E" after 13.5 gallons were consumed. There have been several threads on this topic in the Camry Hybrid forums at GreenHybrid.com. Several owners have tested the limits of the tank and have gone 600+ miles before really needing to fill up. But I would advise you not to do this as the car cannot run for long on just battery.

My car was the same way, I filled up with 13.5 gallons and it was right at E. The dealer told me it had a 15.2 gallon tank, but the toyota.com website begs to differ, but the Chevron begs to differ as well, as does my car. Does that make sense? haha.

Anyways, i'm going with the reserve theory as well.

Deh......Deh..Deh, I'm an idiot. It does says 65L right on page 371. Yep, thats 17.2 gallons.

Thanks for the info and with an average of 36 MPG, I'll be going at less 72 more miles pass Empty.

I REALLY wonder why you would even try a stunt like that. Do people not realize that real damage can be done to the car by allowing the fuel pump to cavitate?
Pump and injector damage come to mind.
Not sure the warranty covers stupidity.
