First let me say that I see no way a wheel / tire combo that is similar in diameter will affect the transmission. I can't see even non-OEM spec sizing affecting the transmission. Might mess up some other things but not the transmission.

Several sites, including the Tire Rack, show various tire dimensions as you up the wheel size to say 17 or 18". Even Toyota is putting 18" wheel packages as a port option on the TCH.

You do however want to keep the new diameter as close as possible to the OEM spec's. That typically means going down in profile (55 series to a 50 series) when going up from a 16" to a 17" wheel.

Realize not sticking to OEM diameter will mess up the FE readings and the speedometer and odometer. (although for the most part they are already not accurate_the speedo is 3 mph off at 70 and the odometer reads 1.5% too low )

Gen6 Tire & Wheels

Well I got my tires & wheels. Hopefully the pic's come up, I'm not sure. Anyway, I went with 18" wheels with 225/45/WR18 95W XL Avon tires. The Avon tires are the only tire company that has the right load bearing for the hybrid. It is a Ultra high performance summer tire. Its not like I need the performance that much, but again load index is important because of the weight of the hybrid. The wheels are 7.5 wide. The ride is nice and not as bad as I thought it might be. I had the shop take the Tire Pressure Sensor out of the stock wheel. Okay, not sure how to post a picture here, but I was able to do it on the gallary site under 6th generation. The car is silver, just so you know. Thanks!

This last sentence qbove is not a correct statement. What you really mean is that Avon is the only tire IN THAT SIZE 225/45/18 which has the correct load index. Because there are plenty of 245/40/18 tires with the correct load index, and I bought BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDWS 235/50WR18 97W tires for my TCH, so they actually have a higher load rating than the Avons. And that particular size of my tires were on clearance for $87/tire shipped, while other sizes of same tire were between $160-200. I wanted the slightly higher profile to correct for the speedometer error.

Just looked at your pics, the wheels look good!

Thanks for the info. I was not sure if a 235 would fit on the camry. If you have any pictures post one.

Before and After pics:

I think the wider wheels and tires gives a more aggressive look, and the taller profile fills the wheel wells nicely. I'm very glad I went 235/50.

Nice

Thanks for the pictures. Your right with 235/50 it fills the wheel wells very good. I like the look. I will have to up size sometime. I live in Colorado and of course it snows, but it looks as if it would ok with what room is left for snow build up. Thanks for posting them. How did you get your pictures to post like you did? I need to learn how to do that. Let me know, thanks...........

Go to your photo in the Gallery. At the bottom under your photo, there will be the full link to your picture, along with a button that says "Copy to Clipboard". Hit the button. Then write your post. On the toolbar above where you are typing, there is an icon for Insert Image. When you click that, a window will ask you for the URL for the image. Hit CTRL-V to paste in the URL you copied. Then delete out the beginning and ending where it says IMG in between brackets, so that you are only left with the full http address. If you did it right, then when you hit OK, your image will pop up in your post. So for this post, when I hit insert image, I put in http://www.toyotanation.com/photos/d...SideAfter4.jpg and the photo below popped into my post.
